In a short amount of time the inventory can get full very quickly while doing some wanted missions, pirate sector clearings, random encounters with the Xsotan or other pirates, and other military type missions. It even happens sooner if you have captains out completing orders. This is also affected by wanting to save items for research or future use.
Is there a performance reason for only allowing 1K items?
I think at least 2048 would be substantially better.
