Unable to change player name. "Playername" field in the game settings is greyed out

Hey there. 

As you can see my steam account name is Dog and for roleplay purposes I really want to change it in game to something more appropriate. In the space of federations, republics and other named factions, a bunch of sectors owned by "Dog" faction does hit hard on immersion. 

Although it is not a game breaking issue (at least in my case), it seems weird that the feature exists in settings, but is for some reason unavailable. Is there something I can do?

Tried my best to google the solution. The best I got was the settings.ini file that reverts everything back to the steam name.

Hi! The playername is connected to your Steam profile name. Therefore you need to change your steam profile name which can be done by just right clicking on your name in your friendlist.

Thanks for the reply, but the question is if there's a possibility to change it in-game without changing steam profile name.  

Wouldn't really want my account to be called "whatevername federation" or something like that. Would be quite cringe

No problem, and thank you for your patience. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to change your in-game name other than to change your steam profile name. I understand that this is not ideal in some cases such as yours. We will discuss this internally, but I can't promise anything.
