  1. You don't have to put goods in your turret factory to build turrets, you can have them in your ship, dock to the turret factory and click build turrets.
The only advantages of building in your own turret factory over an allied one is that you get a discount and that you can build it closer to the core, which will probably result in better turrets then if it was farther from the core.

  2. Steps to reproduce:

    Build a ship

    Add a captain

    Add an academy block

Hire some all-rounder crew (more than academy capacity)

Start training them to be some specialist crew (I was training boarders)

Send the ship on an operation (for me it happened during a scouting operation)

Recall the ship. If the bug was not reproduced, send it on an operation again and wait for it to finish (hopefully not needed).

    Expected outcome:

Academy students stay in academy. Ideally, if some time passed, then the timer progresses or some of them finish training and become specialists

    Observed outcome:

Academy students, including those in academy "queue", disappear.

  3. 1. The fighters you created require pilots. Required crew that you don't have counts towards the number of sergeants you need. So when you have 10 fighters, you need 1 sergeant even if you don't have any pilots. That's why you have increasing requirements as you build fighters.

2a. Probably the infamous ship duplication bug. Ship was duplicated, then the game deleted the duplicate but fighters remained.

2b. You can only use the "transfer all" or arrow  buttons to transfer fighters to the squad directly to the right/left, not to a squad that is above or below (not too user friendly, I know). You can drag fighters one by one to any squad.

  4. Hello! Good to know someone wants to start a PvP server!

There are a few issues with PvP that you should know about and think about solutions to them on your server:

    1. It's easy to get a lot of shield HP (and hull HP in case of stations), but very hard to get a lot of damage. So it can take very long to destroy player ships.

    2. There is no reward for defeating player ships (maybe there is when you board them, I don't know)

    3. It is very easy to escape from a fight

    4. It is not possible to find other players'/alliances' ships, other than stumbling upon them by chance or mutually agreeing to fight in a certain sector.

    5. Turrets are very random and unbalanced and often the player who got more lucky and found a better turret always wins.  Looking for good turrets is an extremely time consuming, tedious process (some players have reported building tens of turret factories to find good turrets for PvP).

Please think about these if you want to have meaningful PvP. I'm sure you can find a way to solve these. You can also have a look at "The Void, Alliance Wars" server (https://discord.gg/vcsnV6q) and see the rules there, to compare with your ideas.

  5. SneakyTacts no. What I meant is that fighters that are NOT produced from turrets (cargo and crew shuttles) have their stats based on the material of the blueprint.

You can try it yourself. Make an iron design and an avorion design and try creating a crew shuttle from both, you will see the difference :)

  6. There is an ongoing effort to add this info to wiki. You can calculate it. Find good "level " and price  in file scripts/lib/goodsindex.lua

For processors, level is 6, price is 7858. Processor factory produces 3 processors per cycle (info from wiki).

Production effort = level*price*amount produced per cycle.

So for processor factory, production effort is  141444.

Minimum cycle duration is 15 seconds, so you need 141444/15=9429 production capacity. I hope this is correct, please try it.

  7. Unfortunately, this is all true (but could have been said more politely).

I think the "structural damage" thing can be safely removed. Boarding will become more profitable, yes, but still less profitable than r-mining for example, so I believe it will not screw up game balance in any way.

  8. I don't like these ideas, you can already do all of this.

In single player, you can just pause the game and you will not pay crew cost, if it bothers you. But it should not, because if you have at least 1 r-miner or any factory, you already have more passive income than crew costs.

You don't "spend resources" when you build ships. If you don't like the changes you've made to your ship and you revert to the previous design, you get all resources and credits back.

If you want to create a component template, you can found a new ship for that (very cheap), or attach the component to your existing ship, then select it, ctrl+c and then press "save from clipboard" in save menu.

In multiplayer, you should not design ships, as it lags the game for everyone. Make your ship in creative mode and only make small changes in multiplayer.

  9. A nasty problem this causes: jump to sector no longer works on the sector where the hologram ship "half exists".

"Jump to craft in sector" still works, but only on stations. If I do "Jump to craft in sector" on a ship, it will still put me in the hologram ship, not the one I picked. Then it will say ship got destroyed and send me to home sector.

  10. Unfortunately the main thing that needs to be done to make fleets fun is to improve combat AI, which is hard.

I will link the reports (the ones I know) of  problems with combat AI behaviour here.

    Probably others too.

This would probably require a lot of effort, but would be much appreciated!

  11. I made a test with my accelerator factory. It has 5 productions, so I measured the time it takes to produce 5 accelerators of one type.

In sector: 16-17 seconds (5 measurements)

Out of sector: 20-27 seconds (5 measurements)

In both cases I looked at the number of accelerators in the factory's cargo bay in the fleet menu. I measured the time it takes for it to increase by 5.

  12. Steps to reproduce:

    1. Find an allied trading post

    2. Sell 1 type of goods to it so that it has full stock

    3. Buy all the goods of that type

    4. Repeat

    Expected result:

    Player loses money

    Actual results:

Player makes absurd amounts of money by just selling and buying at the same station.

This is caused by the price depending too much on the number of goods the trading post has.

I found this by accidentally bumping into this video
