  1. There is nothing wrong with your ship building skills -- that's a great looking fleet of ships!! Good job.

Haha, thanks for the compliment. I will admit my latest ships (Crossplate, Heffendale, Gimbal) are getting much better as my skill improves!

  2. Added XMLs because I know you guys like those. Also, due to the 4-attachment limit, there will now be a maximum of 4 ships per post.

  3. I wish I can make ships as good as most people here, but the ones I do make are half-decent looking in their own regard. I'd thought I would post them here to get a feel for how it rates amongst all you artists out there.

Also, random names are random. Don't mind them as I don't really care about naming my ships half the time.

    Alright let's go!

  4. A suggestion:

Pirates should have more of a tendency to attack sectors near a sector they own (one with a lone shipyard in it, for instance) or have even a speck of influence over. That way, certain sectors are pirate-free (though Xsotan still have a small chance to spawn) and that leaves free space relatively alone if it's not considered part of a "trade route" or other specified place that civilian spacecraft tend to go to when trying to travel inbetween two sectors. Said routes are probably going to be implemented in a much later patch, I imagine, but hey, this is a short-term solution.

  5. What the...? How in...? How did you...? Why is this...?

Your designs have left me speechless, and I usually don't check the design boards often anymore. I'm also liking the Homeworld vibe that everyone is noticing about the aesthetics, and the attention to detail is absolutely marvelous. And the scaling, I agree it's hard to do, but holy crap you do it so well!

Just one question: When do you plan on making Capital-class ships? Or if that seems too ambitious for you, at least a Frigate?

  6. Left a comment on the Steam page's update news thing for this game, just to let you know.

I have noticed that with the release of Avorion into Early Access, and Scott Manley's video, lots of people are flooding into the community to play this gem of a game. I don't blame them, I just wish I have time to join them. As it stands, though, I have other games I would rather play at the moment, but my "Nomadic Entertainment Craving" tends to reverse on itself, so there may be a time where I return to Avorion and possibly play with some of you fine folks.

I'll stick around for a few days in posting this, follow-up on new forum posts and such, but I can't stay long. I promise I will be back, though!

  7. This happened to me too, once. I don't exactly remember if it was a firewall or my configuration that caused it, but somehow I fixed it.

@Koonschi: You should make it so that it kicks you back to the menu and shows a dialog box if you were unable to connect in such a manner, instead of letting it hang indefinitely.

  8. It does indeed seem linked, sadly. How did you manage to use your own account to have multiple instances of Avorion working?

However the method, you could try changing the name of your steam account every time you log into the Avorion LAN, but that does indeed get tedious. Sadly, this is the best method I can suggest so far.

  9. That sounds about right, actually. I know people can be picky, but -0 and 0 are the same thing.

Heck, perhaps that "-" in "-0" is meant to remind you that you have no turrets? I don't know how deep that mechanic goes...

  10. Or just move more to softcode. As far as I remember currently "being aggresive" means only ShipAI():setAggressive(). Giving us (and yourself) some more tools on this mater could give interesting results later as modders would allow different fleets use different tactics.

Exactly. I can see "Very Dumb Very Aggressive Sadistic" factions attack without regard of their own life, but "Very Smart Passive Aggressive" factions would stand off until your shields are down and then take you by surprise. Would require a great deal of coding, but also make the game lots more interesting.

Alternatively, there could be descriptors that modify combat behavior. Masochistic/Cowardly could be a good example of how likely ships are to flee instead of fight, for instance.

  11. But now I'm getting a error thrown for bloom? Run out of memory? :P

If I recall correctly, Koonschi put in an automatic disable of bloom if too much memory was being used for debug purposes. This is uncommon, but normal as far as I can tell.
