  1. After having built a couple of ships now and having to work out a naming classification for myself, i came to the realization that classic SciFi classes are simply irrelevant. The things that tell you the most about a ship in Avorion is the number of slots + material(s) used. That's all that's really needed as far as i'm concerned. Maybe sometimes a ship type suffix could be added to describe a specific purpose, if applicable ; Carrier, freighter, miner, ect. I don't know what a ''Cruiser'' or a ''Battleship'' means in Avorion. As far as i know, it doesn't mean anything. The only classes i can be sure about is a corvette, cause it's the smallest, and dreadnought, cause it's the biggest. Anything in-between doesn't tell you anything. I strongly believe that any classification, be it ''classic'' or made-up, will never mean anything to anyone but a small minority of forum dwellers, unless hard-coded into the game. Now a Trinium 7-slots ship, THAT, i know instantly what it is and have an idea of it's size and capabilities. Therefore, my current classification is as such : [ship name] [material]-[slots] [optional ship type] Example : Ratufa Tr-03 Miner Simple, efficient and descriptive

Thanks to the powerful ship building tools of this game, I poured in many hours in little time, mostly in creative so far. Quite enjoyable :) Without further due, here is the second craft i made, the first one being a crappy thing in survival. This one is in creative mode and was more an aesthetic build loosely inspired by Hiigaran Battleship. Frontier One Class-3 Trinium Corvette -Lacks power generation without upgrade -Weak shield, only a short buffer. -Xanion Hyperspace core, though that doesn't help much. Crappy jump range without upgrade -Also lacks braking power, though i gotta say i like it that way, it makes strafing runs a lot easier.   12. Pretty new here so don't mind me too much, just my lil' two cents. I believe whatever universal class naming system is decided upon, it has little to no chance of being used by majority of players, unless implemented directly by game devs. That being said, it's not impossible to make it popular. Wherever and whenever a ship is shared, just mention you are using the universal ship classification from the forum. Eventually, it will get noticed and most people might start using it too. Regarding the actual classification to use, i agree with DivineEvil three posts above, better to stick with a classification already known and used in SciFi. Anything with original names will not be used. Same if there is too much classes. Simpler is better. I'd go with the Material prefix + Heavy or light (if applicable) + classic SciFi class + Ship Type (if applicable (IE: carrier, freighter, ect)) + Ship Name or something like that. (though i really like the use of the modules slot level as a basis for classes, sooo, actually on the fence) Whatever it is decided though, i don't mind much, the game is still fun :)

(woo first post) SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY It's getting very close to the dream game i always wished for; that is the creative block building similar to Space Engineers + the RTS and management aspects of X3:TC + a hint of EVE Online MMORPG elements. The only thing missing to be perfect for me is single server, persistent universe and player-controlled economy, though that seems somewhat reproducible to a smaller extent via dedicated server hosting and having a big enough player community (i think?, still very new). I was very pleased to discover the game and wished i had known about it sooner! I first saw Scott Manley's vid, then i needed more... Pretty sure i watched nearly EVERY video of this game on youtube to date ;D I always wait for a discount to buy a game, I'm very patient, but not this time... No not this time. Once i went through all videos I could find, I had to buy, no choice! I was convinced after the first vid already :) That being said, i will remain skeptical. The concept is sound but i hope the execution is going to be too, all the way till gold release. So far so good! I really really really like what they've done so far :) Kudos the devs and keep up the great work!
