  1. Thank you, Korr I have started to call it the Engine of Sauron, lol. And of course, I would be remiss if i did not cite my source of inspiration (with a few links already to his body of work in this thread): Le Dev Canadien. What I find most striking about this engine design is that changes in the viewing angle will coincide changes in colour. I have long been inspired by Le Dev Canadien's engine design, and in my effort, I had hoped to enhance the beautiful effects of the original design. Since I've started playing with the refreshed design for Algaard II, I have sometimes been briefly mesmerized by the effect of the engines. From blue to a mix of colours, then to a full bloom of reds ... yumm !! Below I have featured the Engine of Sauron ... ;D (Oh - and Korr - I have sent you the xml for the updated version of Algaard II) :D Stay healthy !! These images may also be found in my Templates Post, under Engines.
  2. Apparently, you can scrap Tesla Turrets at the Scrapyard and get Energy Inverters that way too. Wow, this game is complex, interwoven, but altogether quite simple really - kinda like Chess. ::) So, to fix my list then ... Energy Inverter Factory; Trading Post; and Turret Factory Scrapyards by scrapping Tesla Turrets
  3. Energy Inverters: Energy Inverters may be found here: Energy Inverter Factory; Trading Post; and Turret Factory The few posts I found on Energy Inverters mentioned only the first two. So, if you were getting annoyed by their scarcity, this may help in your Bottan Questing.
  4. Coverage of Operation Exodus ... nice !! 8) *sigh ... I still cannot find Energy Inverters for my Bottan Quest. Ah well, I gotta keep looking in Trading Posts, I guess. Btw - I like your ships.
  5. Some good lessons learned ... Before fully reposting, Algaard II I wanna play Avorion !! I always appreciate criticism and feedback. :P Thank you. The spoiler contains a pic of the final result.
  6. Heya Jester I totally agree with your criticism - thank you. Yes, I have always wanted to incorporate the concepts that Dev le Canadien has developed. He has some unique ideas that look gorgeous. (For anyone looking for the portfolio from Dev le Canadien, you can see it here.) In taking your advice, I chopped off the entire tail from Algaard II. I've extended and widened her back end. I've started my effort and got as far as this (see below). And yeah, this is a similar technique I used for Avaris. The void still present in the rear centre (see photo) is where I will put together an inspired engine design (um ... hopefully inspired, lol). So far, I only have the Wing Engines completed. Thanx again, Cheers
  7. Hi LordMaddog, Yeah, I am sure making videos is much like anything ... you gotta try things out to improve. Your series vs the various bosses works well for content. I am not video-savvy, so I have no real insight from a technical standpoint. Yes, I agree with what you said in your latest video. The speed-ups work better than using cut scenes. I think this lends well to continuity. The music is a good idea too, because it tells the view "ok, fast fwd now ... " Cheers ;D
  8. This is the original design and post of Algaard II. This ship has since been redesigned, in part, because of the valued feedback from other players. If you click the crossed out link (below), it will take you to the NEW posting of the revisioned Algaard II. This post contains the original pictures. Just posted Algaard II here. Or refer to Table of Contents, this thread. Algaard II Elite Titan, 15 Modules Slots, oversized The Algaard II has been a long time coming ... As you will see in the conception design below, the dream of this ship required some planning and a particular set of skills to meet all design specs: High maneuverability; Substantial power generation; Very high acceleration and Very high max speed; and Integral wing design. "I wanted an oversized 15-module ship to handle like an 8 module ship. In other words, I did NOT want to feel BIG" It was a tall order ... In-game, I knew it would be important to enjoy piloting Algaard II. I think the engines need a little more work, the front end certainly needs a tune up ... but aside from that, the stats are crazy !! Everything on the list above has been achieved. I surprised myself. She is much faster than I had dreamed possible, and she spins quickly. As bonus, her stopping power is incredible. By far, the Algaard II is my favorite build. In terms of sheer scale, she exceeds the 15 module requirement by nearly doubling it. I hope you enjoy her also. Algaard II in several poses: Algaard II Stats and Speed Recording: Algaard II hanging out with a Miner (fleet) Algaard II' s Concept Sketch Cheers :)
  9. I have a suggestion ... a request really. I wonder if you could profile the various weapon types in one of your videos. Maybe outline which one you feel is best, and why your choice fits your play style? I would really enjoy seeing that, and hearing another player's approach to killing enemies of the galaxy ... Cheers :)
  10. Hello Maddog The editing is good. The use of fast-forwarding usually makes sense. Apart from that focussing on “Purpose” might build your return viewer base. By that i mean, your video on SWOKs is a good example of this concept. You touch on other th8ngs, but the main objective is clear: in this case, finding and killing SWOKS. I need to watch again, but one of your more recent video featured your turret designs - good stuff also. I will comment again ... and thank you for the vids Cheers
  11. This installment was fun, Maddog. Thanks for sharing :)
  12. I could not disagree more ... sounds like a perfect waste of coding to make nice deformation of asteroid mining. ... of course, thats just one opinion ...
  13. Hello Skorpiono If i may, I suggest you sell all you can to those Resource Depot missions. Reason being is that resource gathering (Mining) is free and there is a tonne out there. Also, once you complete that early game Mining Mission, you earn yourself some nice Mining Turrets. Put 'em to work with that free ship you get (also early game). Have a look ... this is me and my early sidekick ship doing some mining. Cheers
  14. In the spoiler is a glimpse of Algaard II in draft. This ship will be in the Elite Titan Ship Class. Once complete, the ship will be well over the Processing Power requirement for 15 modules. My Ship Classification can be found here along with links to other suggested systems. I am just in the design stage with Algaard II, and nearing the final touches. I may begin construction as early as tomorrow. According to my draft, the ship is 260+ long, and well over 130 blocks wide. Wing tip to wing tip, the ship will have a depth of roughly 48 blocks. I thought some players may be interested in the HOW, so this image will give you a glimpse. By scrolling way down, you can see the ship in silhouette. I have failed in ship builds a few times, so I do as much work as I can in excel. Part of my technique is to render various angle profiles, finalize those, and then I map out the ship components. As you can see, that stage is imminent. The most challenging part will be the Tie-Fighter style wings. I have made them before (see Templates). Regards
  15. Tie Fighter Wings Pics in the Tie Fighter portion of Templates has been updated.
  16. Ærduus Freighter of the Corvette or Frigate Class - 7 to 8 Module Upgrade Slots The Ærduus is ideally suited as a Miner or Fleet Miner. By mid-game, you may find its cargo hold a little deficient to operate this ship as a dedicated Trader. In any case, the Ærduus is intended to grow within my play, so I have created models based on the availability of materials (less mentions of iron): Titanium, Titanium / Naonite, Titanium / Naonite / Trinium, Trinium, and Trinium / Xanion. During the build effort for Ærduus, I hit upon several innovations. And the efforts of Jester, also proved to be another source of ideas and inspiration - thanks for that !! :) Since using the ship in-game, I realized that the small joiner from the powered unit to the cargo portion can be a bit of a risk. I had a bit of an unfortunate crash with it, so I suggest using additional connectors, so you dont lose your entire ship in a small crash ... lol ... Since the 1.0 release, I am happily back playing Avorion again. And wow - the Mining aspect of the game has been vastly improved. (Thank you, Koonschi !!) My game now revolves less around trading to make money. Now, I use my mining fleet. As you will see (below) you can make HUGE money with a modest Fleet deployment and the right equipment. Ærduus pics Ærduus Stats and Materials Requirements (module-free stats) Ærduus Mining Operations Ærduus Mining Equipment and Results !! Play nice !! Have fun !! Cheers :)
  17. Starting Game Just some action shots of Crab doing some mining with an early-game sidekick. A ship is graciously donated by an early-game NPC encounter. I converted it as soon as I could to a similar sized Crab. Early-game quests also provide players with two (2) nice Mining Turrets. It was nice of them to stop their work for a pose ... lol
  18. Very nice !! Well done, Jester!! I like your take on the Reugeot 905 (which was a featured artwork, here). You have a talent ... I hope you continue to explore (and share). And I am pleased that you posted your design (above). My thanx ;D I've been working on my own version for a decent hauler, and I am close to a final product. I will post my initial work later today. As I was nearing the end of that initial build, I was hit with a spurt of innovation that could not be applied to the current build. Your posting gave me a few more ideas. ... I guess I will need to do another one ... lol I wonder if I could incorporate your design into the Freighter Section of this thread, Jester? For my game-play, I will want a range of ship sizes. I suspect other Avorion Players will want/need the same. Thanx again, Cheers
  19. This sounds like a tonne of fun Gontarekt. I like your outlined suggestion. Another approach is to Mine, and then Mine with Fleets. The method could flow like this: #1 From the start of the game, Mine your way up to what you need for a ship scale and style you like. Safety matters, so pick something that will survive. Personally, I like prefer the Crab for my early game. #2 I believe after a few jumps, you are GIVEN a ship by a NPC. Get this ship up to a level much like your Main Ship ... again early survivability matters. #3 Stay in the Civilized Zones as much as you can, mine those areas that are worthwhile (800+ asteroids), or do them as you come venture out. Of course, you can venture out to Yellow Dot zones. However, in the Faction Zones, even at Neutral, you and your Miner Fleet will be afforded substantial protection from Pirates and Zotans (or whatever they are called). #4 You can stay in Civilized Zones all the way to Trinium and Xanion. #5 The biggest challenge is getting the Mining Turrets you really want. You are helped along with some quests that the Devs have inserted into the game. #6 As you gain extra Iron and Titanium, sell the extra to get the Turrets your need. Have fun. Cheers ;)
  20. Warrax

    Ship Scaling

Insightful observation, bplshek, thank you. :)
  21. Good stuff, Maddog. I will be tuning in.
  22. Cool. I checked your steam post, and wondered ... what stats does it have?
  23. I am not sure when it was added ... but I really like the addition of the Tracker Beams to assist docking !! Thank you !! Danke !!
  24. I am trying out the release, v1.0. Looks great so far ... As mentioned before, a big part of my game are freighters. Especially as I get past Destroyers (9 Modules). So, on my return to the game, I know that I will eventually bump into the need for an appealing Freighter design. I have finally settled on the design I want, the Reugeot 905: And some more images I found. I hope in a few weeks, I will have a finished ship to share. In the meantime, enjoy the game !!
