  1. Definitely, this would be a reeaaally helpful feature! ^-^

Though I'm not sure about the revealing on the map part. The limitation are already strict as it is with the marketing upgrades, I don't see why they'd make an exception unless it were some kind of.. station detection upgrade module which scans sectors like the regular and deep scanner, except for certain defined goods such as ones from turret factories like you're talking about.

Speaking of which, you should rename the topic to "Custom Quests for Turret Factories", as it makes it more clear ;)

  2. Hmmm.. I hope that when the AI is improved I hope that turret direction is considered when using the "Mine" command. Seems like a waste when they dance around the asteroid and go back and forth only mining half the time because the ship's own body blocks it.. :/

The main reason I found with why the mining drones are so ineffective is their inability to strafe around an asteroid.. They only go back and forth with their rotating, and this mean only half of the time is spent mining because the other half, the turret is blocked by the ship's own rotation..

  3. Well I found a smugglers hideout to unbrand some goods that I.. Found..

But the trade script crashed or something, apparently because I had more than 15 types of items and it could only view 15..

So I warped to the next sector and made a "Storage cache" to store everything but 15 stole- erm.. borrowed goods..

Unbranded them and then did that a couple times until all the goods were unbranded

so I can sell all of their.. Ermm.. My things at their regular places.. Heheh :P

Apparently the dumping and collecting of thousands of items

crashed my friend's server though.. So that's not too good.. :/

  4. Star Citizen is a great place for inspiration too, they have a LOT of ships..

I'd probably start with recreating a Mustang Alpha, but then maybe an M50..

If I kept them to scale though, I wonder how big the Freelancer would be then :/

  5. I've had this idea since the very first moment I was there were tesla turrets available in game.

For those of you who don't know what a musical tesla coil is, it's basically a tesla coil that's been programed to emit electricity at certain frequencies at certain times in order to play music with the power of electricity.

Now the idea that i propose is that you can have any tesla turret and set it to play a .midi you put in your avorion directory.

Having these music playing turrets would be awesome enough on it's own, but what about damage?

I suppose you could either have it so the damage is kept the same, it just changes the arcs visually or something..

    or

You could have it so that the damage is calculated based on the song and the notes.. Essentially this means that a fast paced song's shots will have lesser DPS as there will be more times the turret is actually firing, where as a song with slower song with more delay between shots will have an increased DPS to make up for the delays?

But yeah, I think this would be an awesome and unique feature. Tell me what yous think ;)

  6. This is pretty much already a feature.

You can open your player inventory, then open your mail thingy. Next to the credits and material amounts there are 10 slots, you can simply drag your turrets or upgrades to said slots and then send them to the player of your choice!

Make sure you get the name right though, or the items will be removed from your inventory and sent to no-one..

  7. So you've made a couple little mining drones, quick, nimble and can stop on a dime.

They have a max velocity of 119m/s and can brake at 231m/s

You've commanded them to escort you and you fly to an asteroid field only 18km or so away.

Naturally you've boosted to get there within 12 seconds in your ship that has a max velocity about 3 times faster.

But you sit there and cringe as your drones that were meant to follow you slow creep ever so slowly towards you, you got there so quickly yet they took 148 seconds?!!

Piloting the drone yourself on full boost got you the same distance in only 41 seconds..

Roughly three and a half times quicker!

    So much for "Escorting" huh?

  8. Sorry for the delay, had some fortunates and unfortunates with my operating systems :/

Unfortunately my original OS died (Kind of.. it was stuck in fallback mode)

Fortunately I still had the disc for the installation

Unfortunately I didn't think to back up the .avorion folder on my old system so I couldn't back up my ships

Fortunately I happened to have the Tardis laying around in a sector of my friend's server so I could save it again!

But yeah, for those who wanna take her out for a spin, here's the requested .xml file ^-^

    Tardis.xml

EDIT: I should probably add this to the main post too huh.. I'll do hat now

NOTE: Fly it with a good quality "Velocity Security Control Bypass" upgrade. You will have soooooo much fun with it, it really does fly well, super fast and all wibbly wobbly xD

  9. Man, I wish I could record my flying in this thing, it's so fun an satisflying to take down pirates in a Tardis, and the hilarity of using guns with recoil is hilarious, I used a triple cannon and fired it once, I went right onto a quintuple loop xD

Unfortunately Linux doesn't support Bandicam, OBS works, but for some reason my recordings keeps chopping between my desktop background, and my active window..

EDIT: Wait nevermind, I totally forgot I had Kazam, I'll record a bit, then upload ;)

EDIT2: It's late though, so I'll edit and upload tomorrow..

  10. Four whole hours and and 498 blocks later I'd finally finished a Tardis that I was happy with.

No laziness was used here :P It took quite some effort though..

The best part is is actually flies like the Tardis! Super fast and nimble, and a little wibbly wobbly :P

    Tardis.xml

NOTE: I must note however that there is somewhat of a bug or issue with the Tardis, it flies and is able to stop so fast that after you take off, upon stopping, going into build mode will show the craft shake.. I'm not sure if this has to do with anything timey whimey.. But it's worth mentioning anyways. If you wish to build anything else on it for whatever reason and you experience this shuddering, simply warp to another sector, it should reset the shakey wakey-ness. Well.. until you start moving again..

Tardis flight guide: There are quite a few remarkable flying features about my Tardis creation, the most notable is it's extreme speed and maneuverability when paired with a "Velocity Security Control Bypass", which is absolutely necessary to put the Tardis at it's full potential.

There are a few things to note on how to fly the Tardis best:

1: The Tardis actually accelerates much faster sideways than it does in any other direction, use this to really pick up speed!

2: After picking up speed, the Tardis has the ability to "dart" instantly in almost any direction, simply hold A or D (Strafing) while holding W (Accelerating), as soon as you release A or D, providing you're still going relatively fast and the Tardis has rotated to that new direction, you will dart almost instantly to the new direction your facing, keeping most, if not all your original speed!

3: If you want to arm the Tardis with weapons, use lasers. If you want to have some fun however, use cannons, you will do really fast backflips from the recoil xD Also the Tardis looks really funny when you try using standard chainguns, you will dip and dip with every shot while flying :P

4: The Tardis is not a very good combat ship, but it's a fun one, if you're don't get dizzy that is.. It has minimal shielding and you'll have to apply the darting technique to essentially "triangle" around your enemies, firing with your lasers all the while if you want to take them down. The Tardis's extreme speed and maneuverability will ensure you can get out in a jiffy if you get into trouble.. Most of the time..

5: This ship has remarkable stopping power, which it needs considering it flies so fast. But if you need to stop flying super fast, try doing the "dart technique" over and over without pressing A or D. This should reverse your direction each time losing a lot of velocity in the progress.

6: One man ship. That's right, it only needs one Doctor engineer! But it does have space for a couple extra companions crew members to man your other turrets for you, or just for company ;)

EDIT: Unfortunately the super maneuverability is in the main release. The beta's physics really kicks the Tardis right in the console.. It also makes the bottom part of it have big ugly thruster holes.. Will need to do a Tardis 2.0 to work with the Beta's changes..

  11. Hey all, I've been binge playing Avorion for the past few days and am very impressed with it so far.

Honestly there's not much to suggest except for small things because it already has so much xD

But the small things are always good to have and here are a couple ideas I thought of whilst playing:

    Navigation hotkey

One of the tedious things in Avorion is having to turn your ship in every which direction just to target on particular station or object, which can be even more difficult if there is another object in the way, that's where this comes in.

There currently is already a feature of a full sector view by zooming out all the way from your ship, giving a RTS style look (I learned this by the handy hints at the loading screen) but having to zoom all the way out and all the way back in is time wasting and annoying, what my suggestion is, as of now, is to simply have "N" be a hotkey to go straight to this fully zoomed out view immediately, pressing it again would return you back with the same camera orientation as when you left that view.

(A screenshot of the current RTS feature, I cropped and brightened it a little to make it easier to see)

    JDqg2L2.jpg

    Selective mirroring

Mirroring is pretty important for those of us who like our ships to be symmetrical, but the system is limited a little by the lack of being able to select more than just one axis to mirror, this suggestion is simply a select box style option, similar to "safe mode" or "match block" except for mirroring, and will have an option for X, Y and Z axes accordingly.

But yeah, just some small suggestions, but I feel they will make a big impact on most if not all of us in Avorion.

If you like my suggestions or just a particular one, make sure you reply and/or share it so that it has

more chance to be seen by the devs, they are after all the ones that make the magic happen ;)
