"Following a Statement of FDI-CEO Dante McFox, the Production of the FX-2 Series was halted in favour of an cooperational Project together with an advantageous Partner!

Rumors came up that the Executive Director of Ares Combat Industries together with his Chief-Designer K. Medlock were seen arriving at the new FDI-HQ.

Combining ACI's Design-Philosophy with the technical capabilitys of FoxDie Inc. let us all wait with bated breath for the upcomming time..."

Working closely together with ACI (check out k_medlocks fantastic workshop if you're interested in Space Engineers! Many thanks for letting me adapt the designs! :-*) has brought up the FX-3 & FX-4 Series, a huge advantage over previous designs both in form and function!

Moved to Steam Workshop, dont expect anything happening here too soon (maybe if i get a lazy minute to care for this topic, but no promises!). If you like what you see here and you're still interested, follow my Steam-Workshop to be up-to-date...

But enought the words, here we go:

FX-42 Dagger-Class Patrol Boat.xml

FX-42 CC "Rapier"-Class Light Corvette

"Once we watched 3 Rapier's wrestling down a totally helpless Light Cruiser of the Makeen-Pirates. Pesky little buggers as they are, always attacking from dead angles, and running out of range when he tried to turn and bring his deadly frontal Laser-Batteries to bear... their Engineers should have considered the firing arcs better..."

- Cpt. C. Cameroon of the "DSV Princess' Desire"

Protected by advanced Integrity-Fields, this small, nimble and substitutable class is often used to command patrols along the Outer Rim, screen bigger ships from attacking fighters or hunt in packs for unaware enemys.

- Lt. Ellen Louise Ripley

FDI's answer on the Taurus Heavy Transport Frigate, the Diligent features a large Cargo Hold, some small ventral Hangar Bays, over-the-top maneuverbility to help with docking processes, additional Guest-/Passanger-Quarters and some remarkably view from the distal Flight Bridge.

FX-4 DD "Claymore"-Class Flakdestroyer

"I know i have the Holo somewhere here...!"

- Miss S. DeVulpes, FDI PR

Often called "The best ships of the fleet" by their crews, a Destroyer brings enough firepower to obliterate any smaller vessel, while a small Trinium-based hull configuration and powerful engines make sure it can outrun any threats it can't outgun.

- FDI Basic Instructions Manual 3649-B, Section 6/5+6/6

Outmassing any Ship of the Line, this class usually makes up the anchor of larger fleets, but is aswell capable to fullfill any task on its own. Not utilizing as much Hangar-Capacity as the Archangel-Carrier nor as much weapon emplacements as a Battleship, but it's versatility makes it a popular choice for any given duty.

thx, still my favourite aswell, smaller ships are more or less Update-Steps made to easier reach it again on a friends server...

Nightingale is a cheap Full-Iron startership (not as cheap as it should be tho...) while the Foxfire-Class is more appropriate as a small Miner after getting your hands on some juicy Apple-Green Ore for Shields (which make the pesky Pirate Attacks less costly!)... Made me a full Trinium Version aswell  8)

After feeling secure in the Trinium-Tier the Ezekiel-Destroyers are there to provide a smaller, cheaper Chassis (compared to the Capital Ships). It sacrifices Jumprange for an additional Upgrade-Slot and can act as Firesupport/Escort with Longrange-Weapons or bigger Miners, also the base Chassis for the Kastelan-Transport (which inherited the huge design flaw of missing Jump Capacity  :-[)

Dramiel-Strike Cruiser are basically Charon-Class Carriers without the Hangars, made to have a escorting weapon platform with similar stats...

i'm still working on Naming, Class-Arrangement and other fluffy bits, so take those for placeholders until i come up with a uniform system i am satisfied with.

for the FX-2 Line, they mostly come together quite nice, the smaller ones having trouble to brake atm and i might have reduced the Engine Narcelle's size a bit too much... we will see when the Thruster Patch gets live  ;D

(Oh, and no plans so far on releasing the Covenant... a experiment to increase the size of the design gone wrong... just there for the sake of completeness)

I really like this ship design. I have to admit I used the dramiel as a template/inspiration to build upon. I'll post some pics of the final product later when I get home from work.

Exited to see what comes out of it! Got distracted a bit from them with another project, but definatly will finish them when volume-update comes...

And nothing bad to start somewhere given IMO, i myself plundered the Space Engineers Workshop a bit and began to modify their basic designs for the FX-3 Series here in Avorion... Some screenys? Pretty sure you wanna see some screenys, why else should one come to the creative section?  ::)

so much genius ppl out there, me was never a very creative person, so if you cant beat em, join em... and so it began with this lady from a fellow SE Player as a new starter ship, new color pattern, some edgework, some details, and voila:

54C9A44BC4DBBAC02B116B68E734C584C47428E3

turned out very well, so i contacted the original creator, asked if i may use the designs officially, which are mostly empty husks for now so i can balance them out all together when they are done, and went on building:

...and on...:

...and... you get it in the meantime i guess...:

the new scaling tool from the forums here helped me alot at one point:

4BD3A709A5DA98AC657CFCF044D1A1799A3830F3

so i could start to go bigger without bigger templates:

great, even more empty husks flying around waiting to get stuffed out:

I love how the Thrusters translated into Avorions design:

C7822931A2978F46ECF1B9A9C84959DB5569D10E

Also started to write a bit fluff for em, not sure if i keep it tho:

"I was second mate on Hera's Dream, a freighter of the line.

We were shipping precious metals to the colony on Nine.

It was on the second watch of that most uneventful flight,

When the pirate ships appeared out of the night.

Now to me there was no question, for they had us four to one,

And you can't fight dirty pirates when your freighter has no gun.

So we stood by to be boarded by a party yet unseen,

When another ship appeared upon our screen.

First we thought it just a pirate, but the vector was all wrong.

Then we thought it might be rescue, but the signal wasn't strong.

When she didn't answer hailing, we all felt an unknown dread,

For we saw her shields were up and glowing red.

Now the courage of that single ship is shown by very few,

But we never knew a ship could fly the way the stranger flew.

Never fearing guns or numbers, like a tiger to its meat,

The stranger then attacked the pirate fleet.

And the strangers beams burned brighter than all beams I'd seen before.

And the strangers shields were harder than the heart of any whore.

As the battle rent the eather, while we watched and shook our heads,

The pirate ships were cut to bloody shreds.

The pirate ships were cut to bloody shreds."

great looking Ships Fox!  I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

As for naming conventions for ship classes, I decided to use real world current conventions for naval ships.  I used the wiki on Naval ships for reference.  they have I think 10 ship classes listed,  and typical size\weight\displacement for each class.  I find it carries over quite well.  I've only designed 2 tiny ships so far so we'll see how well it goes.

but yeah here is the list of different classes, from biggest to smallest.  I guess above Carrier you could go with Dreadnoughts, Titans and other even bigger sounding names.  or even go with Light\heavy\Battle affixes to other classes like cruiser does, to add even more classes.

    Aircraft carrier

    Battleship

    Helicopter carrier

    Battlecruiser

    Heavy cruiser

    Light cruiser

    Destroyer

    Frigate

    Corvette

    Patrol boat

    Fast attack craft

thx, i started completing the smaller FX-3 Frames and can say they are fun to fly even before the Thruster-Volume-Update... lets see, if i can finish em faster than Koonschi his new patch i might release them beforehand...

on the Classification thingy let me quote myself from the other thread in General Discussion:

Still fiddeling with my own system, but if its just to find 15 fitting class-names for the Upgradeslots I'd like to throw in:

[*]Patrol Boat

[*]Light Corvette

[*]Corvette

[*]Light Frigate

[*]Frigate

[*]Destroyer

[*]Light Cruiser

[*]Cruiser

[*]Strikecruiser

[*]Heavy Cruiser

[*]Assault Cruiser

[*]Battlecruiser

[*]Battleship

[*]Dreadnought

[*]Titan

I miss the word "Carrier" in here, but i think its more a role than a mass-related classification, butg switching out the suffix works fine for most cases, like if you get an Assault Carrier for 11-Slot Ship for example...

Very nice :) nice use of colour too.

Quick note of naming conventions, they are rather flexible

there's no exact definition as to what is what.

eg heavy cruisers and armoured cruisers would often have the same displacement or even more than a battlecruiser, a battlecruiser is a cruiser fitted with battleship guns.

The roll of a ship often has a lot to do with it's classification, however as weapons are not part of our designs in Avorion and upgrade slots are tied to volume

Oh and "ship of the line" are heavy cruiser, armoured cruiser, battlecrusiers and battleships, every thing below them were support or screening elements.

Of course carriers upset the apple cart and missiles where the final nail in the coffin of large ships of the line in navel warfare.

I love how these ships look! Quick question, how do you make those nice gifs?

Also, why do they all have abysmal thrust values?? Combined with the low yaw/pitch, those are not going to be hugely functional. I'm tempted to repeat what I did with Pub and take a look under the hood to see if I can improve their functionality.

Using a free program called GifCam, the only thing i had to look out for is switching Avorion to window mode so i can get the Frame into Position... oh, and dont forget to use 33 FPS!

I guesss the low values come from the fact that i totally ignored that they wont work on volume and made the thrusters reach deep into the hull, but with low surface area.. if you replace them with appropriate slices you can get alot more performance out of them! havent tested them in beta, so cant say yet if i reached anything with reasonable capabilitys with them... oh, and in fact the functionality of them was all fine, at least IMO... on the other hand i dont try and fly warships like fighters, maybe me just too indulging and they are really that bad?

I really like your designs. Well done :D

Thanks, appreciated!

After some testing, it's not as bad as I thought. For starters, the values are actually higher than shown in your post. They're functional alright, a bit slow by my standards, but it works. The funny part is that I thought the brake thrust would make things quite difficult, but as it turns out you naturally lose boost speeds very quickly. The last stretches are kinda annoying though. It's somewhat painful to dock, at least with the Claymore, but it's pretty much the slowest ship in your fleet.

So, I take it back, those look good and they are functional. Excuse my surprise, I tend to like speedy things. My 7-slot 130kt multi-role trading ship that wasn't designed with speed in mind can pretty much fly circles around your light corvette.

dont get me wrong here, i appreciate any feedback regarding my ships... good or bad! still pretty new here and learning to make good use of the game's editor, so any hints are very welcome!

Never had any min-maxing with them in mind, but improvements are always welcome, like the nice hint on Leonser's post with the Trinium Engines... pretty nice to help new ppl out with such things that are mostly obvious to most ppl who have played a while...

i totally agree, happily it dont have to dock very often besides getting new gunners when getting more turrets online, the Cargo Hauler does a bit better here! Guess its time for a bit of dissection and a bit of studying...

i will update the stats-pictures and the .xmls as soon as the new beta patch gets live, pretty exited to see what happens to them and if i have to make much room for gyros etc... ...
