A list of suggestions after extensive play

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

 

I have recently purchased the game and so far I love it. I have played quite a bit and decided to post my thoughts about the path the game could be going.

 

I only played single player so far, so all my suggestions concern the single player game. I can not judge MP, as I have not tried it.

The game is incredibly stable. I had just a few minor glitches and 1 single crahs so far. Cudos for that!

 

I have lurked around the forums and also looked up the planned features section. I know some things have been suggested before, but never the less I want to post my general wishes for the SP part of the game. I also do understand that the programming of a game is complex and many features might be to complex for the current system.

 

I will devide my suggestions into a list of priorities (1-), which concern my subjective importance.

 

 

1. A mechanic that simulates active sectors, wherever a player asset is left (stations, ships, etc.). I know it has been stated that this will be worked upon, but I consider it a high priority. Alternatively give players the option to activate and deactivate sectors, so everyone can chose how many sectors remain active (to have better controll of performance).

 

2. The ability to open the ship command window when zooming out in a sector. Currently when you zoom out to the RTS view in a sector, you can select diverse ships and just right click to send them somewhere but you can not issue any other commands. I think it would be sufficient to just enable the command window (pressing "F" when own ship is selected) in this zoomed-out view aswell. This would safe us from tons of scrolling in and out.

 

Those are two points I consider important and doable.

I love sandbox games which give you the maximum amount of freedom and have enough  dynamic content to ensure replayability.

 

Following suggestions are something I would really like to have in the game, but understand it might be too much work.

 

3. A dynamic universe - Factions who fight for territories, where your actions can have an impact on the power of different factions. Non-static sectors, which can be taken over if certain conditions are met. Also a mechanic which introduces new factions and new stations during a playtrough. This would add so much depth that it would immensely improve the replayability value.

 

4. The ability to claim a Sector by construction a certain type of station (either an empty sector, or a faction sector - after cleaning out all ships and stations). A player faction is part of the upcomming features section, but  this is the way I would like to see it implemented. With the ability to create fleets and have a new fleet management window. Also being able to send fleets and ships across the map.

 

5. Workshop support + a function for adding several player made ships to factions. I would like to add several ships from a workshop (by other players) and create factions with them - before the galaxy is generated. I totally want player content in my SP game.

 

That's basically it, I love everything else but I very much hope something like this will be implemented.

Agreed, awesome for an alpha, even more potential.

Agreed, but yeah, pretty sure it is planned already. Not a bad idea to allow that setting to be customized, although depending on the implementation I'm quite sure this can be a fairly lightweight feature.

Also agreed, and I will add that I'd like the RTS view to be a full-fledged toggle-mode instead of having to zoom out. Would be great if it didn't leave when you zoomed in and also having camera control would be nice.

This may be hard to implement, as interesting as it would be.

I second this, though I also think this is planned. To be honest, I think a lot of the X-series features are planned already.

Hell yes. I looove designing ships, probably the thing I spent the most time on, though I feel like I'm kinda wasting my time since a lot of things are likely to change. I should also opt in the beta branch since the thruster mechanic changes are likely to screw up my designs a bit, though I tried to plan ahead and still used inefficient volume-based thrusters.
