Toggle for displaying shield 'shimmer' effect

I'm stuck on an older PC for the moment but the game runs great. The only issue I have is the shield 'shimmer' effect that cycles on every so often.

 

All I see when it triggers is an opaque box around my ship making it hard to maneuver and fight due to the suddenly blocked field of view.

 

Would it be possible to add a toggle in the graphics options to lock this out?

Seconded. The shield shimmer is goddamn annoying when I'm trying to build.

This has been suggested very often and the developers are working on something that will satisfy all (or most, as all might be impossible  ;))

I would definitely up-vote this issue.....they need to disable or at least allow disable while in BUILD mode....nothing is more annoying that the constant shimmering of the entire ship while you are trying to find the correct location of the block you want to add.
