How to set up multiplayer with a remote friend?

Trying to just play multi-player with a friend online and we can't seem to connect. I have opened ports according to the wiki -

 

The UDP and TCP ports that will be used for the game must be forwarded to the machine that runs the game. Default ports are 27000, TCP and UDP for game traffic 27003 (UDP) for queries, 27020 and 27021.

 

Is there more I need to do?

Did you set the galaxy to be public?

In the galaxy folder open the file server.ini and cahnge the settings like this:

isPublic=true
isAuthenticated=true
useSteam=true

Simply opening specific router ports is not enough. You need to have open ports allowed from your network provider.

Alternatly you could establish connection with hamachi and then attempt playing together.
