Make a Fighter out of your best weapon?

I stumbled across an idea, but I'm not sure if that would be idiotic or not.

 

I was lucky enough to research a Chaingun with about 1,400 dps (faster fire rate, more damage and a third modifier). Currently, me and my friends are playing in the Trinium sector just before we get access to Xanion.

 

The weapon damage is enormous compared to everything we've found or researched so far (the best other weapons go up to about 600 dps).

 

Is it a feasible idea to make a fighter out of this weapon to multiply our firepower and protect our stations, etc.? Or is this a waste of an otherwise more than usable weapon?

Currently there is bad calculation of fighter production time in the game. Have tested it by adding a legendary plasma weapon to the fighter which resulted in a production time of 5 hours per fighter, which is ridiculous!

 

You can try it but don't be surprised if the production takes longer as for a purchased fighter from a merchant/station!

Production time for fighters directly depends on the amount of Assembly blocks you have on your ship or station and the number of fighters it can produce at the same time depends on their material.

 

It's worth it either way. Even considering the loss of a portion of the weapon DPS when it is converted to fighters, in that form they easily over-perform the single turret. That, and a single turret does not make that much difference in Trinium region.  Perhaps you might've argued this decision for a remarkably powerful Cannon or a Railgun turret, but a single Chaingun isn't getting anywhere near.

 

So yeah, it is perfectly reasonable to turn a single turret into something, that actually can be replicated in dozens. This is the second reason why people are willing to go trough the trouble of trading to get Turret Factory weapons.

Thank you for your advice. Wanted to try it before and stumbled upon an even better weapon. Sometimes you just have to be lucky.

Yup, Production Effort is important for fighters as it determines what kind of ship can reliably produce them.

I once made a fighter out of a copy of that adorable legendary titanium bolter which is still showing up on the first line when searching for DPS (despite having Trinium and Xanion turrets), and it had 3.66 million production effort, meaning that to make one in one minute, a Production Value of 61 000 is needed.

For information, my future Bellator-class Ogonitegrade Superdestroyer has 64 000, and the Beauxbâtons Xaniongrade Academobile (which is a specialised fighter production mobile station) has 75 000. It's 2 million Xanion worth of Assemblies.

Though, if you have several stations, each with huge production values like around 10 000 (unlike mine ::)) you can have the stations producing the fighters to defend themselves (since one would roll every six minutes, that's two fighters per encounter, so two-thirds of a slot-worth).

It works quite nicely, and having a buffer of some "limited" "elite"/"ace custom" fighters is cool (I use my Reaper Attack Pots as such).

 

I wonder how damage calculations go for coaxial weapons converted to fighters :).
