Some little(and not) ideas.

Suggestion

1. Weapon type: Rail Gun.

----High damage

----High range

----High projective speed

----Extremely slow firing rate

2. Weapon type: Cluster Flak Array.

----Low damage

----Medium range

----Medium projective speed

----Slow firing rate

----AoE damage.

3. Expand sectors.: It doesn't feel like this is space sometimes when all sector is just . . 50x50x50km.

4. New block: Maneuver engine.

----Medium hull

----Increases maneuverability.

5. Possible ways how to get rid of these turret limits.

----Energy, consumation, energy capacity.

----Control(Crew, computers)

----Hull size limits(Bigger your ship is - more weapons you are able to put)

6. Shield block

----Extremely low hull

----Generates shield(Amount of damage you must receive before projectives\beam will hit hull)

----Shield: Extremely weak against beams.

I'm not sure how you imagine the Cluster Flak Array.

 

Expanding the sector is a more difficult task.

Concerning the design:

If the sectors are bigger, then the distances between stations etc. are higher. Which means that you have to spend more time flying around. Which has been discouraged in earlier tests, as the majority of people was simply annoyed.

 

Concerning the technichal issues:

Making sectors bigger means that the rendering coordinate precision will decrease. This means that when you're far from the center of a sector (i.e. its 0, 0, 0 coordinate) flickering and rendering artifacts will start to show up. This is not easily solved as most rendering devices use 32 bit floating point precision.

 

I guess I can increase the sector size, but I need time to consider these aspects. If there is no easy solution, it will probably not happen.

 

As for the other suggestions, those are planned.

At this time there is no division "capital ship" - "fighter", and that's good. The concept of space combat, in which a swarm of small ships destroys the bigger ship is unacceptable and ridiculous, as for me.

That's why I like Avorion - no "fighters" and non-classical battle system.
