I like this idea. Even simple animations such as "twinkling" or flashing lights on crew quarters would be a neat addition. Programable glow blocks that could strobe or sequence would also be super cool.

#2 would be a very useful addition. Also a hotkey that could toggle 'block view' on and off would be handy. Although currently the block view window does not retain the last used filters when closed anyway...
