  1. The wiki seems as functional as it has been for the past week or so. There isn't much there, but searching should get you anything that's there. http://wiki.avorion.net/index.php?title=Server
  2. Number 1: protect your turrets. They are indestructible themselves, but if the block they are on is destroyed, they are lost. My design does put them all on one block but it's iron stone so it's rather strong. I added the sides after a collision with debris took out my turrets. With these solar panels, I think there's enough power for two rare (blue) turret control systems for a total of 6 turrets. I recommend using chainguns for energy conservation reasons. In 0.8.5 not the hotfix it's possible to target turrets separately from the ship's path by holding control. I use this to sail under enemies while firing all 6 turrets. Number 2: Not really a shipbuilding tip but stay with allies when confronting enemies. They have quite a few turrets and can take a lot of hits. To get started, using a mining drone to help fight pirates can get you some starting resources as they drop clouds of materials usually not picked up by the AI until well after they're available for you to pick up. This is basically my most successful design. It's nice and small and a little slow but ok. I can't verify the specifics because my ship is on a server which is down right now, but it's a stick of blocks the same size as the starting block, of solar, solar, crew, thrusters, and then engine. Then I flatten the block to the minimum based on default settings, place 4 of those on the sides of the thruster, cover the crew quarters and solar panels with more solar panels, and then crew cabins (I think) around the engine. Cover the top with a slab of iron stone, put a slab on each side, and bake at 350 degrees until brown and crispy. The red in the first two is turret placing area, and in the third it is a representation of all turrets firing up.
  3. Safe mode is designed to prevent any deletion which includes the root block of your ship. Now, if it prevents the deletion of any single block, that's a problem. It's unclear if this is the case. (Also, I'm not a dev, sorry)
  4. I actually do use discord for chat. Hamachi is just for the VPN to avoid having to forward ports.
  5. So I've essentially been playing this game nonstop in my free time. I've also set up a little server for me and my friends (up erratically and on hamachi, sorry) Anyway, I was wondering about a few names. First, how do you pronounce the name? We say a-VO-rion (ah-VOH-reein) but occasionally AV-orion (like the constellation Orion). Second, we (well, maybe just me ;D) call the sparkling wreckage glitter, as it's very sparkly and pretty but a huge pain to clean up. Finally, does anyone know where in the game-files rarity is addressed? There's one reference to RarityType.Uncommon and another to rarities from -1 to 5, but the equivalent of these in color and name is unclear. I'm not good enough at lua to trace the references across files very well, but would like to find this, primarily for the wiki (and so we can stop saying 'blue upgrade')
  6. Also it's pretty worth protecting your turrets. A good turret is hard to replace, although setting up the armor in a way which allows them all to fire is tough.
  7. As I was unable to back the kick starter in time, I'm looking forward to being able to buy into the game proper instead of the demos.
  8. (Sorry for posting three bugs at once) Rig: Windows 10 16gb ram 3.1 GHz quad core intel i5 processor Radeon HD 7850 GPU While not that bad for the player or performance, some of the auto-generated ships on the windows server appear to contain several layers of similar blocks. I will upload a picture of this later on.
  9. Rig: Windows 10 16gb ram 3.1 GHz quad core intel i5 processor Radeon HD 7850 GPU Well a friend and I were messing around with infinite resources and making some fast ships. He then decided to make the largest block he could. My client began to lag and finally froze as he placed a block containing both our previous ships and a few asteroids. Control-alt-delete did not work. I got a little worried. I hard reset my computer and got the beep code for no graphics card. After making a few threats to the guy who might have broken my gpu, I tried turning it on again. Fortunately it worked. The first thing I expected was an overheated graphics card, but within seconds of the failed boot the gpu was quite cool. Running the server and the client did not seem to cause major lag for either. I assume the issue has to do with the blocks contained within other blocks.
  10. Hello. I have been playing with the windows server and a few friends. When I, as an admin, joined the game first, I was at 0,0 and there was nothing there. The others all connected in some other sector near the edge of the galaxy, but even after relogging I couldn't get there. Changing my name to a non-admin solved the problem. Connecting to the server on a different galaxy after others had loaded did not cause similar problems. Rig: Windows 10 16gb ram 3.1 GHz quad core intel i5 processor Radeon HD 7850 GPU
  11. It is worth noting that Elite:Dangerous does not have automated ships nor does it have a terribly intuitive trading interface. Nonetheless, almost any ship can turn a profit based on knowing what types of stations produce what products and in turn what they purchase. To help boost the viability of trading for new players, there are occasional quests to either find or deliver certain goods. I know quests aren't here yet, and may focus more on action, but such a system could be beneficial.
  12. 100% human being pressing keys with completely organic appendages. Also, isn't the captcha enough? I thought this new type was supposed to be more effective.
