  1. Complex... very diplomatic... ;) I prefer Fugly... ;D But it's a face that the pilot of one will always love...
  2. What if the despawn timer did not start until you logged out/left the sector... If you have a Hairball fight that takes you 2 hours and everything you killed has de-spawned... that makes the fight not worth it regardless how epic it was... But if the despawn time (20 minutes?) does not START until the sector has been unloaded/reloaded/left/logged out... I'm not sure I'm saying this right. I kill stuff and it stays as long as I do... If I log out or leave the sector, that's when the timer effectively begins... I leave the sector and keep playing, it's obvious I didn't want it, I log off because of life... I have 20 minutes once I log back in to get my stuff collected...
  3. I'm guessing that it would work on my own ships if I was running a fleet... Maybe on another player in co-op... I just know I tried to use it (unsuccessfully) as a faction farming tool because it made sense...
  4. Saw this in another thread talking about the System Upgrade Meta This is the core of what I am after here with my hard-point idea. By installing hard points and then using the upgrade modules to actually control them. You can, in essence, build as many hard points as you want on your ship... you just can't populate them with turrets unless you have the module installed to control it.
  5. Love the faction system, but I think some aspects of it are broken. Examples of total faction loss [*]Suddenly hated for accidentally bumping a massive ship into a station [*]Accidentally hitting a ship with a salvaging laser Punishment should fit the crime.. I did 25 HP of damage accidentally to a ship and was instant KOS. Warnings should pop up (again depending on my standing to start with) and an opportunity to pay a fine to negate/resolve the situation should be presented... A player that has built up their standing to Perfect, should NEVER lose that in one shot. Examples where faction loss SHOULD occur: [*]Faction ship gets destroyed (while you are within 10KM) and you did nothing to help them (-20) [*]Salvaging a ship of that faction while another of that faction is within 10KM (-5/second) It is WAY too easy to play vulture, picking up scraps while factions collide... War Opportunists are NEVER looked on neutrally by either side... and likewise it's fairly easy to just hang out and occasionally do a Pew-Pew on a pirate (doing 50hp of 54khp of damage now that he's about to die) to get credits and faction just as if I carried the brunt of the battle...
  6. Docking can be a challenge... Based on this thread, it can be more of a challenge than it really should be... There are already mods out there to address this. So my thought is... Docking should be based on a proximity to the docking location that is flexible based on the mass of your ship... Docking a shuttle at .005 KM is far easier than docking a BattleStar at same proximity... What if Docking range was X+(Sq-root of ship mass*.001) Or some such similar calculation?
  7. I Smell a Tardis build coming on... good point... I gots me a tardis biches! brewwm brewwm brewwm! Looks like a gelatinous cube ate an erector set...
  8. I spent almost two years flying one... it was the best mission runner I ever found and I miss it's awesomeness... Nice page with image and some stats
  9. "Creations" is fine to look at other peoples stuff... maybe even download .xml files... but there is currently lacking a consolidated space to discuss the intricacies of advanced building techniques.
  10. LOVE These! Two questions: 1) Can you make a Void Computer core? 2) HOW do you do this? Have/can you make a YouTube tutorial?
  11. Actually, this improves on and could easily be backwards compatible... currently when you save a ship and reload it, the turrets poof and you have to place them again... (The ENTIRE reason I though up this solution) The hardpoint would place the exact same way a turret does now, including material restrictions... so after the update, any turret currently placed would be replaced with a hardpoint of the same material. Current management of turrets is one of my personal biggest issues around this game. I spent over 2 years multi-boxing in EVE... I love Avorion... I am in no way complaining, I am fully invested in helping when and where I can... This is just one of those areas that would benefit the most from some polish
  12. LOVE THIS! Also: Repair turrets should need Mechanics to operate. And, Yes, I was thinking that repair turrets only increase HP of non-destroyed blocks.
  13. Repairs are not so much the issue here... Repair costs are negligible currently.. I think of it like this... I get a flat tire on the road I can fix it... I get in a wreck ... sure I can do some body work at home... sure it cost me more and looks like crap... but do-able We are currently building MASSIVE structures in space with no logistical support... the equivalent of designing vehicles on the side of the road with no engineering cost... My suggestion is in place to add value to Iron and have faction standings mean something after your first 4 hours... Iron would become a resource that allows that "build in space... where-ever" luxury we already enjoy too easily...
  14. "might be interesting" /sigh... I HATE having to spend minutes in the build screen every time my situation changes... Salvage? Cool let me rebuild. Mining? Cool, let me rebuild.... Combat!?!?! OK, I need to rebuild..... Salvage again??? ... damn... gotta rebuild.... Combat again... /sigh "b" key again This would be so much less painful if I had the ability to organize/sort turrets like my other suggestion. I like that they scale with tech level... unless you suddenly want to scale the weapons (and their material cost)
  15. Also, if you put the hardpoints too close together, larger turrets will not fit in them.
  16. Right now one of my biggest issues is managing the functionality of my ship. I want to change out equipment and be functional... with minimal fuss... We have a FANTASTIC method for changing out the modules but not turrets.. (which is kind of logistically backwards) So... with that in mind... I propose: Hard points!!! ...in the build menu you have the ability to install a "Turret Mount" that mount will me material based and carry over it's size limitation to the following screen: Turret Management: Just as you can change out modules now you can change out turrets... Modules will still control the number and type of functional turrets, but if you want to invest material into 5 passive and 5 armed "mounts" you can... then you just have to change a module to allow you to populate those mounts... OR you can have all of them populated but only functional based on your modules...
  17. Make Shipyards Viable (and desired)... Right now, with the ability to build ships in space, there is no real value to heading in to a Repair Depot or Shipyard... What if: every STRUCTURE change that you conduct in space had an associated "Cost" in Iron for building (and consuming) scaffolding... basically making your own impromptu shipyard in space? Repairs remain the same as they are now, but each block of construction costs you a fair amount of iron... say... 15% of the volume you are building... so, based on Volume... Small ship.. small cost... Big ship... big cost... UNLESS you are within 3.0KM of a (neutral or better) shipyard ... even better... standing affects cost... having a poor standing will save you 30% up to friendly saving 90%...
  18. Going one step further, I have yet to make one of these work... I assume that you must have the actual material in stock to affect said repairs? That would also be in line with basically giving them materials... and it would be a reasonable barrier to keep someone that is at Naonite level from repairing a ship that is two or three techs above their level (unless they have been scooping up debris to fuel the repairs)
  19. For each faction there is a Homeworld. What if each Homeworld sector had an Embassy that would allow any non-KOS to take missions to improve standing? Have poor standing? Want to run missions? Find an embassy!
