  1. Is there any way to control the scaling using this method so that it moves up and down in discrete steps of whole numbers? For example say I build a ship and want to double it in size precisely so that the grid sizes stay consistent.
  2. Yep, I do the same thing and alternate colors so I can visually see block differentiation.
  3. General view of the prow without top and bottom armor plates in place: View of the prow showing the space inside for addition of tech upgrades: Going to try and keep the top and bottom armor sections for this prow with clean lines at the joins so that it's clear where to cut for adding upgrades and then repasting the sections afterwards. Probably going to be a few more areas with space like this along the ship, too. I want a very nice Battlefleet Gothic model without upgrades just tacked on everywhere while at the same time still having the capacity to add them.
  4. I'm currently working on a Battlefleet Gothic ship, an Infidel class 'raider' which is essentially in the destroyer range of ships. It's modular in that I'm designing it with plenty of room for tech upgrades such as power generators, shields, etc. as you advance. Just have to pop off certain parts of the armor, make the upgrades and/or additions then paste the armor back in. It should be ready by the end of this weekend.
  5. I'd be highly surprised if koonschi doesn't add direct functionality to share preset shapes for each ship build XML file at some point.
  6. Actually I think I just figured out an easier way for the end user. I can add the parts to the default preset templates XML file and just make that modified file available along with the XML file for an assembled ship so they can see how it goes together.
  7. I'm designing a fully modular ship in that each major component is saved as a preset shape, allowing the ship to be reassembled into the exact design from the inside out at each upgrade level. The intent is to allow for the addition of each level of technology as it becomes available, such as shield generators, etc. without having to piecemeal the upgrades onto the outside of the ship or fiddle with positioning the camera inside of a hollow core. The designing phase is going well, however once it's complete I plan to share it and therein lies the issue. Is there any way to share my preset shapes as a unit for someone else to use or do I need to save each as a 'ship' and share them that way?
  8. There's probably a happy realistic medium somewhere.
  9. I get your point but please consider the unarmed mining ship operating in a dense asteroid field. Faction battle between 2 the ship is friendly with erupts around it. Is the ship supposed to take a faction hit with both for not getting involved? What if it has one low tech turret and no shields and the ships fighting are all Frigates or better? Is the ship supposed to leave the mining it was doing and fight?
  10. Difficulty of game level doesn't directly equate with forced faction warfare involvement, so calm down with the arrogance please.
  11. Yeah Triu sorted me out on that. I'll admit I'm a horrible beta tester because I don't rush in any game.
  12. I understand it's not a petting zoo, but I still see your suggestion as forcing war involvement. I could live with it but I'd rather not have to and given the choice I'd rather nothing drop and the wrecks cause faction hit when salvaged over taking faction hits just for being in the immediate area and not fighting.
  13. Ah now I see it, didn't consider buying xanion out there.
  14. I'm not trying to ruin co-op or PVE and I'm not just a builder. I tried rushing to xanion sectors last night in an iron shuttle on Normal and I'm simply not seeing how you get anything done. Do you jump sector to sector for after hour looking for a faction battle and hoping for salvaging and mining turrets strong enough to mine xanion to drop?
  15. The faction war drops are insignificant to the overall game, so no need to complicate things.
  16. I can't get behind any push for those sorts of changes. This is a sandbox builder game with some added features, it doesn't need a war crimes tribunal or penalties for experimental exploration.
  17. Yeah I would absolutely love the ability to place my camera at a specific location.
  18. I'm stuck on an older PC for the moment but the game runs great. The only issue I have is the shield 'shimmer' effect that cycles on every so often. All I see when it triggers is an opaque box around my ship making it hard to maneuver and fight due to the suddenly blocked field of view. Would it be possible to add a toggle in the graphics options to lock this out?
  19. Absolutely gorgeous models. Any thoughts on doing a few Chaos cruisers? You know you *really* want to do a Styx and a Hades...
  20. I've been playing with the Cobra (swapped out to all Titanium) since early Friday and man do I love this ship. While the details and absolute closeness to the Cobra model impress me, I'm even more impressed by the performance of the ship. It's so pretty I've been agonizing on how to add some upgrades like integrity field and shield generators but I think I figured out how to do it. One of the Cobra variants has an additional set of smaller winglets about half way along the main body, so I'm thinking about adding them to the ship in the same way you did. Hopefully I can scale down some panels to hide the lighted effects on those. I'm dissecting it right now to learn how you built it from inside out so I can replicate that level of performance on my own designs. I might try to model a Chaos Idolator or Infidel, we'll see. VERY nice work, and thanks for sharing!
