  1. I haven't gotten myself up to a level to make use of torpedoes in the beta branch myself yet, however I do like the idea of the AI having access to them. Some of them have some pretty nasty effects, like disabling your shields for a few seconds or doing more damage the further they were fired from. Let me put it this way: before the combat update, I had *NEVER* died in Avorion. Then I died twice, because I was trying to rush to Naonite in a small and weak ship and I didn't put enough PDCs on it. Torpedoes look like a way to help make the AI more threatening. Custom turrets were listed as a feature of the second part of the combat update, so hopefully we'll see them soon!
  2. Your drone can't outrun torpedoes! Jump drive? You'll probably be dead before you can calculate a jump in your drone. A small ship can survive early game, if you equip 4+ PDCs and boost directly away from the persecutors when they spawn on you. Flying away from them will give your PDCs time to destroy the incoming torpedoes and let you get out of their range.
  3. Your drone can't outrun torpedoes! I believe next update is supposed to let you design custom turrets! I think he meant that you jump out of the sector, not boosting In my experience so far, the hunter pirates will have a torpedo on your tail before you even get a chance to calculate a jump, even in your drone. :D
  4. Try out the combat update on the beta branch and see if some of these issues are better.

  6. I noticed the icon for the mobile turret merchant was the same as all the other civilian/trading ships, making it hard to find. Is it possible to let them keep their equipment/turret icons to make them easier to see?
  7. Maybe some of you will enjoy this video clip of my demise. :)
  8. Started a new game on insane difficulty. These actually make it dangerous to rush to the naonite stage of the game without first taking the time to build up a proper ship. I have never died in this game before today where I've already died twice. It was my own fault for not equipping enough PDCs though. First death was to the pirate Boss because I didn't pay him the money he wanted. Second death was from a persecutor because I foolishly only had 1 PDC on my ship. These torpedo ships spice up the gameplay and make it actually feel dangerous to fly in dangerous space. Before, I could just rush to Naonite and Trinium without ever being in danger because I could always boost away from enemies before they got a shot off. Now, I'll have to be more careful and/or fly with a halfway decent ship. We'll have to see how this change plays out but I like it so far. Really like it. It's also a good thing that they are disabled on beginner difficulty so the people who want to freely roam the galaxy can do so. :)
  9. These are nasty. I'm playing on Insane difficulty and they make it much riskier to rush to the Naonite stage before getting a proper ship. I really like this change actually. I've died twice now, but it was my own fault for not equipping enough PDCs. I've never died in this game before. Giving them torpedoes is a nice way to spice up the gameplay. It's nice having enemies that you can't just boost away from and be out of their range in 3 seconds.
  10. This is more than I expected this update. I'm really looking forward to testing these changes out! I have to say, this looks AMAZING! I love that some turrets can now be bigger and take up more slots. I love that we can have proper PDCs now! I love that we can teleport to our ships in different sectors! And thank you for listing weapon DPS in the tooltips!
  11. Proper large anti capital weapons which have a hard time hitting smaller targets. Resource asteroids that scale in size with distance to the core. Enemies of various sizes and more variety in missions with some giving small ships a purpose. Better fleet control so you can have a fleet of anti frigate destroyers, carriers in the back, etc.
  12. Looks like beta branch tomorrow
  13. They hinted that it might be on the beta branch this week but like with anything no promises!
  14. My ideas for possible point defense and anti-fighter weapons: Point Defense Cannon: High rate of fire. Good accuracy. Moderate range. High tracking speed. Basically a more accurate, faster firing chaingun. Works by using up dodges of individual fighters through sheer number of bullets, eventually destroying them. Good for destroying fighters directly attacking you as they fly straight at you. Point Defense Laser: Instead of a continuous beam, it's a pulse firing laser. Highly accurate. Low damage, but the high accuracy means that unless the fighter dodges, it will eventually get hit. Low range. High tracking speed. Good for destroying individual fighters. Uses energy and if left on too long you'll need to shut it down to cool down. Flak cannon: Fires flak that explodes in an AOE in proximity to enemy fighters. Moderate range. Deals very little damage but cannot be dodged. Good for slowly destroying large groups of fighters. Low tracking speed. Overheats. Anti Fighter Missiles: Long range. Fast missiles that have a 100% chance to hit fighters, unless the fighter performs a dodge. Good at taking out fighters that are attacking other ships. All of these weapons would have independent targeting built in, of course. Balance them properly so that you can't just destroy fighters without giving the owning carrier a chance to respond with counterplay.
  15. Just for flavor, for now. They don't do anything except attack you if you anger them.
  16. Not possible in the vanilla game. The trading upgrades only let you see trades at all the stations in the sector at a glance, buy/sell price margins, and shows you detected trading routes in the last X sectors you've visited.
  17. The pirate and alien attacks are random, so it looks like you just had bad luck in getting multiple attacks in a row. Mining/salvaging ships are best used with fighters, once you progress far enough. They will only launch the type of fighters that they need for the task you assign them.
  18. Those poor traders. Their homes get eaten by a rift while they are away on a cargo run. :(
  19. There is a teleport command you can use, but the devs have said they will be adding a non-cheating way to teleport to a sector that you have ships in specifically to move your mining fleets, etc. It should be in the next major update but no promises.
  20. Amazing work! I've used the Retriever so much in EVE Online. Always loved the look of it, it just reminded me of what a mining barge "should" feel like.
  21. This will be a must have mod for me.
  22. I support adding the hot key functions. That should be in the base game already! Thank you both for working on this!
