  1. There are usually a ton of wormholes that cross through the galaxy. Some will end up being useful, many are not. once you explore more, you might find some that end up being good trade routes, or shortcuts to the center. They are all random, as each galaxy is randomly spawned.
  2. I am super excited to see this update! As a player, I do appreciate your dedication to continuing to develop the game. keep going dude!
  3. but what about those that wish to hide? perhaps a good method would be a combination of better enhancements to radar to detect ships, with an icon if a player structure is detected, but also options for stealth on ships too. Players will tend to go towards certain stations or resources, and build up near the best factories and trade routes, so running into others does happen periodically.
  4. Ive been going through all the player designs here, this thing is pretty fantastic and really stands out. So many good little design elements to it!
  5. I recommend building some lose open framework in creative mode. first figure out how long/wide you wand it, and then create some basic squared and rectangle sections out of the scaffold that you can easily delete later. after you have the general frame done, you can start putting some hull sections on, and start placing some giant system blocks "inside". shields are based on the scale of the generator, so pick a number you want, 30k? 100k? 1 million? and scale up shield generators to give that output. then, slap on a giant rock section to the bottom of the hold, and place your engines on the ship. (note, engines CAN be covered, and dont have to be fully visible). be sure to work the ship over to a nearby station, crew up and then see how the ship flies. Then with all these systems running, you can build your generator to be big enough to provide power for the other systems. be sure to leave excess power for system slots, etc. oh, also once you figure out how it handles with the giant rock attached, remove it. its just to help account for the extra mass of the ships outer plating and decorations later... so, once you play with systems and get something working, start filling in secondary things like cargo hold, or hanger bays, additional crew quarters, and then armor. once you filled in the gaps, start streamlining the outer hull and armor to match the design you want, and place decorations.... there uh.... does that help?
  6. I love how free form this game can can be, and has the potential to be. The merchant system is not bad, and MUCH better with stations that work out of sector now, (thank you!). But piracy I feel is much harder due to the huge nerf sold goods are, at only 15%? I would love to see the price go up to say 45 to 50%? Maybe more or less for certain items, or faction ratings perhaps. I would also like to be able to pick up players dropped systems/turrets. I am ok with letting them not be pickup able for a short time, for retrieval, but maybe after 5 or ten minutes, make it so anyone can pick them up? I think this could encourage a lot more PVP and desire for such, as well as factions warring with each other for the loot. Just a thought. I love what we have so far, and cant wait to see how development unfolds.
  7. SO, the big deal about the next patch (alliances) (which is available in beta branch btw) is that stations and ships in other sectors that the player is NOT in are NOW ACTIVE! :D So now, you can have stations and asteroid mines produce things while you travel around the galaxy, and sell that stuff later. So, I dont think this really needs to be changed at this point. soon the normal version of Avorion will be updated once they feel they have the bugs worked out. Though, maybe some options to dock a ship, or put it into a hibernation mode might be useful?
  8. I really like the look and the fact that its built just right for mining efficiently.
  9. welp, ive seen everything now, including pony spaceships! :P not my thing, but, well made at least
  10. woooo! my advice actually worked! ;D ...I mean, of course it would, because I said so! :P
  11. did you leave a captain on it? this seems odd... if ships run like they should, Ive had guard dog ships that mop up weak alien and pirate ships while I afk'd in sectors... they SHOULD work the same out-of-sector in the new beta, perhaps its a bug....
  12. build cheap water mines and battery (power cell) stations to start with. Everywhere needs water and batteries. Build the stations mostly out of stone, with say around 2k cargo space. now build 5 of those, and just pick up all the stuff produced, and with some good jump modules you can zip around and sell them all off, come back and pick up more to sell real fast. Once you get 5 or 6 stations up, they are each producing items each tick, so your rate of production goes way up. this is a good way to get massive quantity of items to sell, and common items to sell, while they may not make AS MUCH individually as the fancy tech gear, they are so commonly needed you make profits en masse.
  13. Players cannot add gates in. (yet? maybe one day?) so I guess those ones are stuck being one way. There ARE safe sectors, but those are random like everything else, when you enter them a notice will say that you have entered a safe sector and cannot deal player damage. BEST spots to log out. But in all honesty, most servers Ive been on seem low enough population that you can just kind of hide a ship or leave it at a base somewhere and noone will find it unless they are REEEEALLY trying....
  14. Maybe try re-installing the game or switching back to regular? (if you have ship builds you like be sure to save those files first) I know that beta can be very glitchy... not sure what else I can offer to help. :-\
