  1. Ok so apparently I went about this the wrong way. So if the fighters are attacking you, the higher rate of fire pulse weapons are "ok", but still not nearly as effective.as I thought. Ironically enough, it was my plasma weapons ??? Looks like the projectiles have a bigger hit box (I could be wrong) and thus do a little better at hitting them/activating their dodge. I had 18 rps pulse weapons and they just we're not doing enough effective hits. I also had 2k dps rapid fire 12+ rps chainguns and they were not very effective either, and they do enough damage if they hit they would have killed. They (chain and pulse weapons) just seem a small bit behind on tracking and not adequately predicting the flight path of fighters. Keep in my everything I am using is auto targeting except for guided missile launchers. I will say I have 4 guided missile launchers and a volley of three from each launcher will track, follow and kill a fighter in about 10 seconds. If you manually re-target and fire volleys, it is at least somewhat effective, but time to kill is too long and this method requires serious micro management for taking out larger groups of fighters. It will be taking a break next few days, but when I return I am going to try auto-targeting missile launchers, and also a larger group of auto-target plasma to confirm if they are more effective. Would be nice to have a auto-target only fighters option though for turret groups.
  2. Same issue with me and a buddy of mine last night on my server for pilot count bug. Suddenly had about 7k pilots,. I agree with hammer, it appears fore to come from fighters Hopefully 15 branch resolves this, I got rid of the pilots but it now thinks I need like 7 generals after getting rid of them, and I don't want the moral hit that I will never be able to fix.
  3. A bugged ship xml in a specific sector seems like it could, but this seems (from the way you describe it), that the sectors that are having an issue sometimes work for a while. Maybe script related? Or a ship performing a certain action in those sectors, so the ship, or the xml it uses is buggy when a specific situation presents itself? Do the sectors in question have several stations close to each other? Maybe the game trying to spawn cargo vessels causing an issue? This of course beings me back to thinking a possible script issue. What mods do you have?
  4. If the player is offline and you go into a sector where his ships are will it crash? When you Regen the sectors, does that kill off fighter entities? Had a buddy of mine manage to build a rapid fire cannon with cool down, and built a fighter with it and the fighter was bugged which crashed the sector when it fired. Got rid of the fighter and that cleared it up. Just a thought.
  5. Someone else just posted something similar in another thread so this is affecting a couple people. Do all the servers create that same 577? Your not running steam in offline mode or anything? Are you running steam as admin? When you did uninstall and reinstall did you delete the appdata folder? There is a folder called roaming and appdata is also referenced by some as a "roaming" folder so I just want to clarify. What if you start a new single player game, exit the singleplayer Galaxy then join a server? I wouldn't think this would have an affect, but it seems like something local is caching faction data for multiplayer and causing this problem all servers, which doesn't make sense to me. Maybe a Dev could contribute on this one.
  6. Derkster, I don't want to be rude but could you edit your post and move the one you have to a new thread? It looks to be a different issue from logs and I don't want this thread to grow confusing. (EDIT: or add your post to ukroprovich's thread, he seems to be having similar issue with same message.) On that note, I have a couple questions already once you start a new thread.
  7. Is it possible to have the game only calculate the two surfaces of the panel? (Like with you bi-directional thrusters?my) That would discourage this and be a little more realistic and block count efficient, but I have no idea what kind of difficulty that would be for game development.
  8. I have been working on some testing on this in suggestions thread, albeit very slowly. Fighters in great numbers become exponentially more powerfully for two reasons: You can put your best weapon on them, make a blue print (with roughly 30% return) and make a blue print you can spam. Second is their cool down and dodges become crazy if there are so many flying in and out of targeting range and firing arc of turrets that as they dance around turrets never get a chance to concentrate on one fighter long enough to destroy it. When it comes back into range the turrets that were firing on it are now focusing another with max chances of dodging, which will likely leave range or arc before all dodges are used and the process repeats. Semi effective weapons so far are very high rate of fire non-spread pulse weapons, and guides missiles. Guided missile would only ever be effective on a small number of fighters due to time to kill. It may be a guaranteed kill, but it will take long enough to not be an effective deterrent to say 30+ fighters Pulse weapons I am still experiment in with. I have suggested that dodge chances and cool down be server configurable.
  9. Ok so I have been trying to think on some of this. Do you have your paging file disabled? Normally people don't disable it, but some people do, and some applications do not like that. Most shouldn't care but I have not checked whether avorion cares about this. Do you get adds when you open your browser? (This seems like a simple question but as I don't know your PC knowledge level I'm asking some of what so.e would call the basics...sorry in advance) Make sure you don't have any ship files in your workstation folder. That seems to be causing a couple issue for people. If your comfortable providing a list of running applications: Run powershell as admin then type in the following: GPS | out-file "c:\process.txt" Copy and paste or attach contents to a post. It would be good if both of you having issues could do this to see if there is something similar between the two. (Unlikely, but worth a shot as well). If your feeling really adventurous, you can do a cold startup. If there is a incompatibility with a software on your PC, this will 98% likely address it. Now BIG disclosure on this though, your modifying your startup of your machine if you do the following, that means, disabling any applications that startup automatically, including performance tweak applications, fan controller softwares, anti virus, steam etc. Though this shouldn't cause issues hardly ever, if you have your machine super over clocked and rely on software to force all your coolers to run higher, it won't. In addition, some AV will still run as it has special processes that make sure it cannot be shutoff, in which case you have to uninstall it, sometimes with a special utility cause the darn things won't uninstall. So here we go: (Write down how to restore from this before doing it as well, just in case) Start-> Run then type Msconfig Since you both have windows 8 you can type msconfig in the search bar and it should come up to. Selective startup, Services tab: - check the box next to Hide all Microsoft services, then click disable all. (Make sure you hit the checkbox next to hide Microsoft services BEFORE disable all or you will shut off most of your operating system and nothing will work!) Then startup tab and uncheck everything. Click ok. Restart PC, you will a pop-up saying you've done this and you can click ok to continue. To undo this: Start->Run (or search box) type MSCONFIG Then click dot next to Normal startup. Restart PC and everything will be back to how it was. You can also Google this to find some more in depth guides with pictures to if it helps. I wouldn't do anything more complicated though as some guides will want you to do a bunch more which is unnecessary for our purposes here.
  10. Hey Gutless, Looking at this, that first post looks like your client side logs, a couple fails to your singleplayer, then it looks like you tried connecting to the server and it succeeded. Your second post looks like a local server log and may explain why you cannot login to a single player game because it is crashing. The question is why. I've have only just begun to explore how the game works, so possibly someone with more time and experience may already know. This time of year my personal time becomes more limited for a bit so I cannot designate as much time as I would to checking on this. Can you try running steam as system administrator so avorion will run as administrator? Do you have some anti virus software running you can temporarily turn off and try? Be sure to turn back on of course when done testing.
  11. It's in options, "press space on loading screens". Make sure it is disabled / not checked.
  12. This was the problem in another thread. This will be good to keep in mind for future posts about this. Wonder if this is something the dev can look into? Do you have a copy of those two files?
  13. I haven't had a chance to engage a large fleet of fighters to do some good tests against a large ball of npc fighters. I am still tracking this. I will say however that I find the rapid fire pulse weapons (10+ rounds per sec) are fairly effective against a small number of fighters. Part of my problem with getting to test leads into another suggestion: We need more enemies with fighters. I am in xanion and a little ogonite and I only ever see fighters in factional warfare and even then not much.
  14. I will be able to play tonight, so I will set a monitor on my ram usage and see what happens. If I see my ram climb I will try a single player game where I sit there doing nothing and see if RAM usage climbs that high as well.
  15. Hello, Sorry I did not have a chance to do any testing last night as I was too tired when I got home from work. I will try to do some testing tonight. Thanks,
  16. Hi Drew, Until yesterday I did not notice you had missions that can spawn in custom ships. Also you will likely have some competition from "[MOD][WIP] Custom Pirate Factions using Workship ships" I do not believe a majority of People like manually summoning something to fight beyond testing and occasional wow factor with pew pew fun. The missions of on your mod and eventual custom factions with custom ships is where I see a lot of these custom ship mods coming into play. I myself am usually busy this time of year so I haven't had much chance to try your mod out. I want to, as I would love to work on creating a bunch of custom missions for players beyond, "kill the pirates" that is in the game now. Anyhow just my 1.5 cents worth.
  17. I thought that was how the game worked. If you take off integrity fields, you can clip or break blocks through damage. With integrity fields applying a 10x HP boost to the block, it is possible for one singular block to surpass ships total HP. Without the fields blocks can break. Exception to this is your first block which represents your command, you lose it, you die. The second is of it is like a spinal block that you have attached everything else to. I guess I will have to do some crash testing ;D
  18. Hmmm. Do you run Steam as administrator, and thus the games run as administrator? Curious if we can telnet into those ports on a single player instance if you have the game running. Where the local server is running but local client cannot connect. It appears that is how the single player works. Wonder if there also is a "server" side log for local instance. I will have to check on the log and the telnet option when I get home tonight. Last idea: Have you tried starting a multiplayer local game? I believe it is the "host game" option. Curious if you get the same thing in your logs. Also you can disable the "press spacebar" to continue on loading screen option I find that makes the act up at times. I will try to get back to you tonight on the log and telnet idea as I'm at work at the moment.
  19. Out of curiosity, do you have the spacebar to continue option disabled? I know that has given me some problems and hated loading into a sector where my ship was already under fire. As for the ship editor part, now that I think about, I do have problems with a ship I didn't before. More testing may be necessary, but you may be right about the ship editor having problems. I also enabled some other options (reflections) since the update, I will try playing with those as well and see if that helps resolve it. May help if dev turn off the re-render/re-calculate ship for every block. (NVM just read today's patch notes, already addressing this...lol)
  20. What, or who's server are you trying to connect to? Almost looks like a issue server side. Can you try another server as a troubleshoot in step?
  21. Have you tried changing the in file and setting the permissions so no one can modify? Can always take ownership using local admin privileges later.
  22. Those last two lines: 2017-11-25 21-38-02| Client UDP: Error receiving from 127.0.0.1, error: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host, received bytes: 0 2017-11-25 21-38-03| Client UDP: Error receiving from 127.0.0.1, error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it, received bytes: I could be wrong but that Screams "Firewall here!!!!!" (Could also be a problem with avorion, as the first line I believe can come from that) What do you mean by port forwarding? As 127.x.x.x is usually local. Shouldn't be a need to forward ports, unless you mean opening them in local firewall on your PC. You need to disable firewalla or open the ports on your local PC. This of course gets muddy when you have either multiple firewalls, Or as is more common, anti-virus that doesn't actually turn off the firewall when you tell it too. (I'm looking at you Norton AV). Such AVs will have a "firewall" and then also a "internet protection" that needs to be disabled as it can really muddy things up. Some anti-virus set up local proxy on your PC for email and web filtering, and it "may" interfere as well. It shouldn't mess with all ports on your local IP of 127.0.0.1, but I have seem much weirder things from Anti virus programs. Chance it could be known issue someone has an easy fix for that I am not aware as well, but barring that, I'm leaning towards your AV or firewall.
  23. Well this is obviously a 64gb ram game..."get gud hardware" ::) Kidding aside, I have never seen my game spike like that. Not on my server either with 3 or 4 of us playing - though I do not monitor that closely unless there is a problem. I will have to check. What are you doing in game? I know if you have a huge ship in game and start making large changes such as copy/paste or deleting entire sections of a 12k + block ship in build mode, the client can get angry and crash. Did you modify how many sectors can be active or make your own mods? Sorry if questions seek basic, but got to start somewhere 8) Thanks!

Troebal, I am not sure how far you are into game, but I have not ran into such a bug, and neither have a couple of people I play with. Not refuting that you have ran into one, but feel a little more troubleshooting is necessary. Especially if it is a bug dev would need to know. Can you hit T and get out of your ship? This will put you in the drone. Will the drone move normally? Do you have enough power for main thrusters to fire? Are you cought up on a small asteroid or piece of station? Lastly, what happened leading up to this? This will allow the community to try and re-create the bug and see if there is a way around it. Game is a ton of fun, hate to see someone abandon for a year for a bug that may or may not be super rare.

Yeah there are a couple different camera control buttons. F2 gives you a different control scheme that is less fighter like. There was one other one that has gotten me, I want to say numpad 5, but that may be a personal binding. I would check through your controls list, and if all else fails...mash everything.
