Running Avorion dedicated server on hyper-v

I am currently testing this game with a few friends, so i have added a Gentoo VM to run the server.  Have had a few problems manly with performance.  we are all lagging and jumping around when there is lots of battles, I have noticed that my CPU will run in low power mode with this game and only if the CPU hits over 150% then the CPU will change from 800Mhz to 1200Mhz.  I have tried running on Ubuntu desktop, this seems to be running better and the CPU will change after hitting 100% but still lots of issues.  the only time we had no issues was when i had 3 Plex connections running as the CPU boosted between 2600Mhz - 3300Mhz.

 

I tried running Avorion on the Host O/S (Windows Server 2012 R2) in case the hyper-V was causing issues  however this would not run, see below;

Your problem is your target starting directory, it should be the locaiton of the server application NOT the roaming profile.

 

If you are using windows, setup a shortcut too AvorionServer.exe with a target simlar too this

 

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Avorion\bin\AvorionServer.exe" -t network --galaxy-name dedi

 

 

As you can see mine is stored in my steamapps folder inside a folder called Avorion, as it runs dedicated.

the -t network will give you a little more network output information also too the logfiles you would normaly see in the roaming directory.

 

name of my galaxy is simply -> dedi <-- change this too name of your save folder inside the roaming profile area

Judging from your logs, the server started up just fine, why do you think it didn't work?

Hi Koonschi,

I could not see the server, from the game.  I did not have these problems on my VM windows or VM linux.

 

Also do you know of a solution for running the game in linux, my problem was the CPUs did not come out of eco mode?

Did you forward all the necessary ports? Did you make sure that no windows defender or other firewall is blocking the server?
