Control Feature: Cruise control.

I would love to have a cruise control, or Sticky throttle that I could engage forward or reverse, that would allow me to point my ship in a direction and just let it keep going while I look around with turrets or fight without steering the ship...

 

Would also like "match speed with target" to allow me to safely deal with mobile merchants...

There's a Keyboard Steering control mode, that allow you to do that. You can adjust a completely separate set of hotkeys for it and use a 'Swap Controls' (IIRC) hotkey to switch between the modes. In Keyboard Steering mode, you modify the throttle level, rather than hold keys to move forward/back. The only downside is that there's no Strafing controls.

 

Match Speed hotkey is a great suggestion, and I fully support it.

I just push the W key, then jam a penny under the 2 and 3 to hold it down, then go make a cup of coffee or whatever. Old DayZ mountain climbing trick. ;)

With the upcoming update there will also be a dedicated option for this!

I think the more logical feature would be to just turn thrusters' inertia dampening off, like in Space Engineers
