Weapon Ideas

After messing around with some Chaingun Turrets with a really high rate of fire, 48.2 in fact, I watched the bullets fly. I had them so close together, that it looked like a sort of scattershot, or shotgun, so I thought, "Hey, maybe I should suggest a scattershot kind of weapon?" Well, here I am now, suggesting this 'scattershot kind of weapon'. It can have the fire rate of a 1.5-2.0 Triple Chaingun Turret or less, of course, and it can deal an almost equivalent amount of damage as the Railguns can, but nothing too OP of course. It can overheat like a Railgun as well, and have Burst Fire (similar to the real-world USAS-12, I guess). The accuracy doesn't really matter because the bullets will be scattered everywhere anyhow, and the size ranges just like your typical weaponry. I also thought that it would be pretty cool if you could change the color(s) of your turret, its base, its projectile color, and whether you want it to have a trail or not (only applicable to weaponry such as Chaingun Turrets and Launcher Turrets). Then I thought that it might be fun to see some sort of massive laser cannon or railgun that deals massive damage, but overheats the instant it is fired and takes a while to cool, so it can't be really OP and just wipe out entire armies and/or factions (kind of like the Death Star's giant laser). I just remembered this one when toying around with my Launcher Turrets: A Swarm Launcher! You select a target, fire, and a swarm of nanites quickly travel to your target and attack it; repair if friendly. The damage is pretty weak, considering it's nanites, but the fire rate is crazy-high, and the nanites make up for their tiny damage in attack speed (like real nanites!). There are three forms to this: A Launcher which launches rockets, except they're loaded with nanites; A Cannon which launches your typical cannon projectile, except it's a shell filled with nanites; And A Laser which is like your typical laser, except the laser beam is swarmed with nanites, and they twirl around it in the shape of DNA. The Cannon deals the most damage, but has the least accuracy; the Launcher deals the second-most damage and has average accuracy; and the Laser has the least damage, but it has the highest accuracy of them all.

 

More ideas to come!

 

Please note that I am not skilled enough to create any astonishing ships yet, but I hope I will be able to do so in the near future and provide my fellow Avorions with them! :D

 

These are my ideas for now, and I may come back every now and then to update this post, but please enjoy these lovely ideas.

Also, there are some cool ideas in there, but I'd be careful with anything that puts out a large number of projectiles since you have to consider the number of turrets a single ship can have. Then multiply it by however many enemy ships spawn/are there. This could have some rather serious CPU load, not to mention that it would clutter a screen which I find already too easily filled with wreckage, drops, asteroids and projectiles.

Well, a way to combat the load is to make it an instant hit weapon like the lightning turret. It could fill the range role of 3 km for over heating weapons, as there's only lasers there.

 

I wouldn't feel cheated about it not being a bullet weapon though, you can just think of it as the bullets are so fast they rip themselves apart in 3km. The most important part about shotguns is actually the sound I think, nothing in this game has a deep/powerful sound to it. Even the cannons sound like toys...

there is a chaingun variant that already burst fires.

the thing is, "burst fire" is already used as a weapon mod.

 

i do like your nanite weapon though. it could be modified by "nano-laythe blocks" on the firing and target ships.

nano-laythe blocks being blocks that boost passive repair, and passive defense againse nanite weapons.

Burst fire doesn't even mean anything special for chainguns, I've seen burst fire ones that have a fire rate of 2 shots a second, and normal ones that have 40 shots per second. What are you trying to get at by saying burst fire already exists?

I agree that none of the weapons have really any special sounds or, as you said, "deep/powerful" sounds. It would be nice to see the devs remaster the sounds and make them sound more powerful. (Like... Maybe make the cannons sound like tank cannons? Just a thought.)
