Stupid questions!

Hey guys, trying to learn new things but I can't seem to find answers at all.

 

Have a general purpose ship right now but I want to build some new ships for my use. For example I want to build a dedicated trader and leave my combat ship somewhere.

 

Where can I safely leave ships?

 

In my starting area I am top rep level from trading and stuff. However gates leading to important sectors seems to have gotten destroyed somehow while I was exploring. One sector will have a gate and it leads to the correct sector but once there, there is no gate to get back anymore.

 

Is there a way to fix the gate connections?

 

Thanks for your help, i'm sure i'll have a lot more questions later.

Players cannot add gates in. (yet? maybe one day?) so I guess those ones are stuck being one way.

 

There ARE safe sectors, but those are random like everything else, when you enter them a notice will say that you have entered a safe sector and cannot deal player damage. BEST spots to log out. But in all honesty, most servers Ive been on seem low enough population that you can just kind of hide a ship or leave it at a base somewhere and noone will find it unless they are REEEEALLY trying....

Never played on a server so no idea about that.

 

Anyway turns out you can't leave your ships anywhere they will be destroyed by aliens or pirates. I left a battleship in a sector and despite it being heavily armed and shielded (with orders to attack enemies, which it did), while I was out trading it almost died to the enemies that spawn in the starting sector.

did you leave a captain on it? this seems odd... if ships run like they should, Ive had guard dog ships that mop up weak alien and pirate ships while I afk'd in sectors... they SHOULD work the same out-of-sector in the new beta, perhaps its a bug....

AFAIK you can't give it orders without a captain? Could be mistaken though but I thought it was a requirement but I am pretty noob. The shield didn't regen at all, i came back when it was on the last sliver of shield.
