Option to shift(not scale) blocks in building mode

I spend a longer-than-normal time building my ships and my biggest gripe is not being able to shift a block in a direction.

 

For example, I'll copy blocks from one piece of my ship and try to put them on another (non-mirrored) piece of my ship. I will not be able to place them due to overlapping blocks (I think this has to do with it trying to keep the blocks relative to the center of mass?).

 

I don't think I did a good job of explaining, so let me know if you need screenshots.

Try holding ALT, you can then select the block you want to use to attach your copied part.
