New to game, There seems to be a warm hole that leads to no where?

Well, a wormhole should go somewhere. Whether it goes anywhere useful...

There are usually a ton of wormholes that cross through the galaxy. Some will end up being useful, many are not. once you explore more, you might find some that end up being good trade routes, or shortcuts to the center. They are all random, as each galaxy is randomly spawned.

If you take a worm hole and end up in an empty sector look at your map and start jumping towards the green or yellow dots.  You'll soon find a faction that way.  They may not be friendly.  Most of the worm holes I've gone through to date originate in a faction controlled sector and dump me into an empty one.

Wormholes unlike gates are non-selectable. The Galaxy Map can show you where they go, by zooming and dezooming (the wormhole lines disappear at a certain zoom level, which is kinda weird design since wormholes are reasonably rare and it would be helpful to have a big view of the galaxy with those precious shortcuts ::)).

The MoveUI mod can display the distance to core, so one could better ascertain it's a descending, ascending or roughly equivalent wormhole :).

Not pointless... Wormholes = shortcuts.

Even if your jumpdrive outranges it, you save on calculation time by using it.
