Covering a ship in 1x1x1 turrets may be effective, but it doesn't get that satisfying space battleship feel. We need battleship turrets, 3x3x1, 5x5x2 and so on, the drawbacks being that they require far more crew than a normal turret, the turrets on the Iowa-class battleships had 85-110 crew for example. We won't need quite that many due to autoloaders, but still way more than a small turret. That also includes large torpedo and missile tubes which could mount broadside, vertical launch, forwards facing, etc.
When you need even more firepower, there's the spinal weapon mount. The idea behind a spinal weapon is that if you have a gun so big it can't be mounted on the outside of any ship, you put it inside a ship running down the middle. The advantage is that it is far more powerful than any turret and uses the entire ship as armor, but it can only fire forwards and has little if any traverse (A few degrees of traverse would be possible if a bit more internal space was reserved to let the gun move around).
