NEW - Romulan Warbird in progress

I've moved this to the top because I like how it turned out

Asgard cruiser (Stargate SG1)

This was my first recreation, and as any builder; you've got to start somewhere. You'll see from my later creations my technique growing in complexity and ambition. All I can say is it's down to practice practice practice; so for any budding builders out there 'keep at it!'

After my first version, I wanted to push myself further in both detail and design. So I tackled it again, nearly quadrupling the size and number of blocks.

I was still learning ways of doing the build so as a game ship it wasn't very suitable, it was heavy and sluggish; it could take a punch alright but it took too many modules to move about. I had to change this in later builds.

Behold - The Homer

My next project, just had to be done! Again, this one was fun to build.

White Star (Babylon 5)

To date, this is my most complicated build. Working from a top-side-front diagram of the ship design; the hollows and angles proved to be very tricky to put together. Altogether the amount of work was probably pushing 12 hours solid.

I however did learn a new technique for keeping the wieght down. I created my own hull block which was 0.1 thick hull and 0.9 frame. This was used to fill in large flat sections

Step by step progress

Drake (Eve online)

This is my favourite ship from the Eve online universe, so I put this together. I'm starting to tinker with the palette & subcomponants, which is how i did the missile turrets

This is great! Good job on creating it.

I was thinking about creating something along these lines on a much larger scale. Any chance you might be able to upload the plan for this someplace? I'd love to pick it apart and see how you've structured it :)

Sure i'll send you the plans. But I'm also going to increase the size and detail tonight.

After doing a playthrough with it, the ship is awesome; even with only 1.8k hitpoints. All the componants are on the inside, with integrity fields spread throughout the ship so nothing can break off. It's fast and manouverable, with a massive thruster filling up the centre, and thrusters placed throughout the wings. The fins contain more thrusters giving a nice healthy 41 m/s/s

But time to upgrade, I think I'm going to push for a 10k hitpoint version.

Edit: I've also drawn up plans for a Prometheus class cruiser. Even on paper its looking big, I'm guessing around the 30k hp, but I won't know till it's built.

Looks wicked!

Bigger is certainly a tradeoff. You sacrifice a loooooot of mobility, but you gain massive tank and often more offensive power, plus extra system slots.

Also bigger looks way more intimidating ;)

I like how the larger one turned out, good job sir.

Here's the build process

Before I even begin, i work out a 2d version using inkscape

This the build starts with replacing the anchor block with the size that I want, (the default is 2x2x2) I usually use 0.5x0.5x0.5 for smaller ships, or 1x1x1

But sometimes i'll go 2x1x1 (this is important for x-mirroring - if you look closely in the middle picture, you'll see that i have the anchor block selected)

I then bridge out, replicating the 2d version onto the game. Making the frame work to build from [pic1]

Then using y-mirror I add depth around the edges

Once the main shell is finished I can then add the details in after

I've already brought you an Asgard ship, and a homer ship. So before I start work on my next ship; here's a quick view of my current playthrough ship.

It's not visually perfect by any means, but I didn't build it for it's looks. It's stats are what makes it; that and it's weaponry.

If you're wondering about the crew (showing red). I have dedicated crew that are levelled up to meet the ship requirements. So all ship systems are a-ok.

It's about time I put my creations into a single thread.

I'm working on a new project

WhiteStar progress

WhiteStar progress 2 It's starting to take shape. This is one of the most challenging builds I've done yet. I think it's going to take multiple days work

WhiteStar progress 3 Got the fins on now :) That was tricky

WhiteStar progress 4 Its taking shape, nearly time for filling.

WhiteStar progress 5 Filling is going well, oooh getting goosebumps now ;)

WhiteStar progress 6 This one people might find interesting. I've had to get creative with my construction techniques. Using engineering principles to form the shape. I make the curved surface in a slice which I can then copy'n'paste along the hull.

WhiteStar progress 7 Added some glow blocks, continued filling the hull in.

Here's some of my earlier designs

Homer

O'Neil Class Asgard Ship

Current Playthrough Ship

Edit: When I'm done with my latest, I'll sort my pastebin out and get some XML's out there for people

Here's the raw XML for my creations. Just copy and paste the full lot into a blank xml file (paste into notepad and save-as .xml)

Pop the file into %appdata%\avorion\ships and away you go.

Homer

Asgard O'Neil Class Cruiser

Edit: I'm going to have trouble uploading the WhiteStar, freebie pastebin has a 512 byte limit and the White Star is already over a meg; and it's not finished yet either.

I'll do a two-parter, but it might spill into 3

White Star 1 of 3

White Star 2 of 3

White Star 3 of 3

This is as complete as i'm gonna get it. This has been a very tough road to get this far.

The stats are very reasonable

Cost is just shy of 25000 Trinium for the full thing

I'll have a look at what service other people are using to host their xml files. Pastebin isn't going to cut it for this 1.8meg xml

Even with block merging, still got 6000+ blocks. (When I was putting it together i hit over 20k blocks at one point :D)
