In many games that allow modding, the mods them selves often break when the game is updated, the mod maker then has to update his mode.
What I'm suggesting is a set of variables that point to the resources used in modding. so if a game update changes the location or name of the resource, the permanently named resource pointer has the new location or name. when the game updates the pointer update. the modding need only reference the pointers to work. Now this does no cover fundamental changes in how the game works, but should help the mods stay viable for longer?
Im not a game moder so my assumptions could easily be wrong.
