Docking missions and mechanics

Guest

Suggestion

The new docking feature has a lot of unrealized potential. Here are a few ideas.

///New docking mechanics:///

-Dragging wrecks from battles to scrapyards and selling them
*Wreckages can be docked and taken to a scrapyard where they can be sold.

-System upgrade that highlights wreckages
*Note: has been requested a lot even before docking.

///Docking related bulletin board missions:///

-Clean up wreckages from sector
*Player can use either a salvaging laser to destroy a few large wrecks in the sector or dock them and take them somewhere else.
*Given by any station.

-Haul more wrecks to scrapyard
*Player is asked to acquire wreckages and take them to a scrapyard.
*Given by scrapyards.

-Bring a ship of an enemy faction for analysis
*Player is asked to either 1. board and capture 2. destroy and bring the wreckage of an enemy faction ship to a military outpost for analysis.
*Given by military outposts.

-Gather asteroids for scientific research
*Player must collect asteroids from specific sectors by docking and bring them to a research station or a resource depot.
*Given by research stations and resource depots.

-Take a satellite to a certain sector
*Players are asked to take a satellite to a certain sector and leave it there.
*Given by research stations and military outposts with some minor differences.
*Players have a chance to get attacked at the end location.

-Transfer ship
*The existing mission could possibly be changed so that the player must dock the ship and tow it to the destination.

-Container delivery
*The player must dock and deliver a special container or containers to a specified location under a specific amount of time
*Version A: Given by legal factions. Pirates or another faction will attack the player during delivery unless the player hands over the container, which will then be rendered useless.
*Version B: Given by smugglers or pirates. A legal faction will attack the player during delivery unless the player hands over the container.
*The player can open the container themselves, angering the mission givers AND the ones who want to get their hands on it.

///Docking related random events and randomly occurring missions:///

-Search and rescue mission (rework)
*The ship can be found 1. destroyed 2. under attack 3. with its engines damaged and the player has to dock the ship and drag it to a repair dock.

-Steal a wreckage from a scrapyard
*Given by a random pirate.

-Raiding party
*A random large pirate fleet will ask the player to join them on a raid on a smuggler transport of a rival pirate faction.
*The player's job is to destroy the smuggler ship while the pirate fleet defends the player against the smuggler's escorts.
*The smuggler ship has dozens of containers docked to it and the player has to destroy the smuggler ship to detach the containers.
*If the player isn't fast enough, the smuggler ship will eventually warp away.
*When the smuggler is destroyed, an alarm will go out and a large defense fleet will arrive soon and the player has to quickly collect as many containers as possible and escape.
*The player will be awarded for their cooperation with the permission to keep a few of the containers.
*Alternatively the player can attempt keeping all the containers to themselves by not showing up to the mission end location, which will send a massive persecutor fleet after the player.

-The ritual
*Player gets a strange hail from asteroid cultists. A leading religious figure will ask the player to bring them a large resoure asteroid to a specified location.
*Failing to fulfill the mission after taking it will cause the cultists to attack your location with the full strength of their fleet. The cultists follow the player like persecutors if they escape.
*Negative outcome: At the end location the player has a small chance to be the next "sacrifice" and has to fight their way out after handing over the asteroid.
*Positive outcome: The cultists upgrade the asteroid's material level and give it to the player. Can't be upgraded to Avorion.

-Steal containers from a faction and bring them to a pirate or a smuggler
*Given by random pirates or smugglers.

-Sabotage a station with explosives
*The player must dock a special container and launch it towards a specified station.
*The container will violently explode on contact with the station and destroy it. The container will not explode anywhere else other than when hitting the specified target.
*If the container is destroyed while docked, player's ship will be destroyed as well.
*Given by random pirates, smugglers or as a bulletin board mission by a faction military outpost against another faction.
