How can you transfer cargo/upgrades/equipment between them? Fly close to the other ship, so that the distance indicator shows 0km and press F. It's the last entry in the list. You can build new ships from your drone or using the shipyard. But you will have to add crew and especially a captain if you've built it by yourself.
