Increasing the throughput of ambient shuttles?

I've read that you can speed it up a huge amount by docking them to each other, have you tried that?

You can also stack transport software and use transport blocks to get materials between them... i think. I do this on my low level factory chains but I dont know how to see if it's working or not.
