Private Servers (Password guarded servers)

Hi, I run a server for a group of friends that we don't really want people joining without permission, We have kept the IP address secret however people have been joining through steam and I was wondering if you could either add a whitelist (using steam groups or something?) or add a password barrier?

Whitelist or tell your friends to place their Steam in OFFLINE mode, once in game? People joining off of them, just because xD ouch
