  1. Yeah and i think positioning also effects it. Maybe how much of the actualy engine is connected to the ship because it changes sometimes just by moving the engine
  2. This is discussed in depth here: https://www.avorion.net/forum/index.php/topic,1040.0.html Editv My mistake, that thread is about thrusters. Butbi think some similar concept apply. It has something to do with the added weight of the engines compared to the output.
  3. Best way to determine who to side with yet. I think i have a new strategy lol
  4. Well alright i see where you are coming from. if the game were under you system what would be in place to making dying really "bad". The game already gives the players power to basically be more powerful thank most npcs and have near infinite resources. What would be repercussions for death (aside from a few thousand resources) if there isnt a chance of really losing equipment (your ship is right there to pick it up) or the need to travel deeper into the universe again? I guess what im asking is wouldnt this just make the game too easy? Should there be no repercussions for death? Edit: a simpler issue is this: how do you explain that happening? As far as realistically in game you are only in one ship. The rest of your ships are run by hired captains who are in those ships flying them. Is your consiousness somehow leaving your characters body and flying into the other captains? You change ships by getting close and moving into those ships, which makes me believe the players are meant to have some "physical" existance in this game, which means they shouldnt be able to just teleport through space into another cockpit. Perhaps a way to control other ships only in the RTS view while you are not in system with them?
  5. I like it! Are you going to make more EVE ships?
  6. It was just one example. I can see people using that to take advantage. Imagine trying to do a trade run but run into a player pirate in pvp and every time you kill them they just teleport to another ship and are right after you again after you won the fight fair and square. Just my opinion. I feel like it would diminish the repercussions of dying. Dying would almost become a stragegic advantage to be used in various situations. People would just send little cheap crafts to the deeper sectors to mine a bunch of high level mats without risking their real ship, or even risking the time it took to get there.
  7. Introducing: Cutlass MK I Battle-Cruiser This is the current Flagship of the fleet. It offers a decent hull and shield for its size, along with great maneuverability. Modifications can easily be made to the systems by removing the front "blade" and one of the sides of the rear "blade". Statistics: Basic stats, minimal crew, minimal system upgrades Stats with full crew and current system upgrades I am using: CutlassBC.xml
  8. Ive heard a couple stories about ships getting offended when they are bumped by an npc or accidently hit during the firefight, although i dont know how acurate they are, perhaps that happened here?
  9. Not right now. The only way to change the home sector is talked about here (http://www.avorion.net/forum/index.php/topic,830.0.html i dont know how to hide the link in the word lol. I used to be so good at these forums ten years ago when i was a wee gamer)
  10. In a short answer, no i do not think there is a way. The only way to move between ships (even in the same system) is being in close proximity and pressing "T" or flying to it in a drone. Although this would make things simpler, you could also do things like have a ship waiting at the resource shop while you mine in far off systems so you could instantly switch back and sell your materials and make fast money way to easily.
  11. A lot of this sounds like deeper issues but on thing that may help you a bit, zoom out to RTS mode and you can select your ai ships, and direct them to go through the gate before you even do. Select the ships and right click the gate you want and they will make their own way and you can go meet them there. The only issue is not knowing what is on the other side of the gate if you dont go in first.
  12. Once you start mining titanium you'll be able to make a titanium generator which is much more efficient than solar panels. This should probably be the first thing you make from titanium. In the crafting menu, scroll down past the iron and you'll see the titanium stuff. You may already be able to make one!
  13. Yeah my biggest issue with this is the speed of trying to move your mining crafts. I just made my main craft large enough to hold the crew and captains for 2 mining ships. When I find a place worth mining for a little while i quickly build my disposable mining crafts, transfer crew and equipment and let them loose. When the sector is clear i pack up the crew and equipment, scuttle the ships and move on. I make a very hefty profit and move quickly.
  14. I definitely agree with thisn i was thinking about it earlier. There should be a hotkey to instantly zoom out to RTS mode. There are many times pirates/aliens fly into a sector and i have to stop what im doing and zoom all yhe way out to direct all of my appropriate ships towards/away from the fight. This would be much easier if the zooming could be done at the press of a button
  15. All turrets have reticles showing where the turret is aiming, butbas far as i can tell these are mostly for telling when something in range. I think what we are talking about here is a reticle that doesnt come from your weapons, but one that shows a locked targets direction/velocity, to show where you need to aim your turret reticle in order to lead the target and have your projectiles actually hit.
  16. I know they automatic minera and things only work if a player is in the sector with them, but what if the owner is not online? Will ai ships work if a friend is in the system, and the ai ship has orders, but the owner is currently logger off? Also what are the parameters for paying the crew, does their timer only run down when the owner is online, any time the server is running, or just when you are in system with them and they are working? I haven,t had time to test this on my own really
  17. Do you know if they only get paid when the player that owns them in on server? If another player is in system with your crews do they continue getting pay? Or are they paid as long as the server is running?
  18. I would agree that the frequency of attacks coud be tweeked. Not necissarily everywheren there should of course be sectors where this happens a lot, but one would think that especially deeper into a factions controlled territory they would have a pretty decent grasp on protecting the sector from pirates/aliens
  19. So as long as your ship is not attacked in 5 minutes, or noone else happens into your sector you can assume your ship is safe?
  20. I somewhat agree. While playing it does not bother me but im often wondering where i can leave my ship when i log off for it to be safe. Even if i take it out to unoccupied space and leave it, i fear pirates will just move in and attack.
  21. Yeah be careful hiring too many captains, the salary really adds up. i did this last night to get some ships mining while i built a new ship, and i ended up oweing like 50k to my crew, but i used all my resources and money building the new ship (which i didnt finish but was instead attacked by pirates, so i cant finish editing it/dismantling it until its repaired, which i no longer have the resources to do.) Tl;dr salaries add up, don't get in over your head.
  22. Alright cool. Well ill start filling out some info later this afternoon when im off work. Ibthunk having a flushed out wiki will really help make the game more accessable
  23. Does anyone know the priority for working on wiki pages? What should the community start with? Are there certain pages we should save for the devs/admins to fill in? I want to start putting in info but dont particularly know where to start. Anyone have input?
  24. Hey everyone. CitizenCake. Used to be a Freelancer player back in the day and an EVE player after that. Wheb i saw the game on steam i had to pick it up. This game is just what I've been looking for for ages.
