While most of the game is very intuitive and block based building factories and player owned stations are not. AFAIK you can only get one size of each station and can't change it's production throughput.
I suggest making "blocks" (eg. an entire sheet of solar panels for a solar farm) that you can place. Each block produces its own item. This style of station construction allows for a single station producing a variety of goods.
Factory blocks allow for super factories that are a full vertical ;D something that I'm excited for.
