Sector moving away from you

Hi,

 

So I am new to Avorion but I went through a gate and for some reason the entire sector was moving away from me (asteroids and warp gate were moving when I wasn't and quite fast) and I tried my best to catch up using engines but I eventually smacked into something that I was attempting to head away from. Is this a mechanic or a bug? I am really confused and it killed my interest to stop playing for the night and will try again another day.

 

Any insight would be helpful.

My only insight is that I can tell you that hasn't happened to me so far in 50 hours of play, don't let it kill the game for you! You could just jump to another sector :)

A few times I've had a bug caused by certain accelerations during a warp, and when you get to the next sector the ship just decides it's moving in a direction like you're pushing WASD buttons when you're not. Warping again didn't fix it but restarting the game did. It sounds like maybe this happened to you and the ship decided to move backwards? And that's why it seemed like the whole sector was moving away from you?
