Helping faction attack civil ship makes them hate you

As the title says I was attacking a salesman ship to aid a faction that was also attacking it. Instead of gaining rep with them they hated me even though they were attacking it too. Is this intended or is this a bug?

Thanks for reporting. This is not really intended, the "We hate you when you blow up civil ships" mechanic is independent from the observing faction's relations of to the faction of the ship that was destroyed. Will be fixed in the next patch.
